The world was shocked by the surprising news that her ex-boyfriend, Louis Tomlinson, is set to become a father for the first time.

And Eleanor Calder – who dated the One Direction star for four years – has been keeping to herself ever since the news became public knowledge.

The British model was seen enjoying a hike with a friend on her birthday last week as she continued to enjoy her relaxing vacation in Los Angeles.

The pretty brunette was kitted out in workout gear for the outing as she made the most of the peaceful moment.

Her relationship with 1D star Louis only come to an end in March, so Eleanor could certainly be forgiven for feeling upset by the shock news he is reportedly set to become a father.

However, the One Direction singer apparently told her personally before the news was made public last week.

A friend told People: 'Eleanor knows and she's fine.'

The Manchester University graduate, who turned 23 on Thursday, was coincidentally holidaying in Los Angeles - the same place where stylist Briana Jungwirth, the mother of Louis's unborn child, lives.

Blogger Eleanor has been Stateside for the past week and was having early birthday celebrations with her pal Megan Murphy at the Andaz West Hollywood rooftop bar last Tuesday.

Last weekend, she enjoyed a road trip to Vegas with Megan, according to images posted on their respective Instagram pages.

However, since news of Louis's impending fatherhood broke, Eleanor was noticeably silent on her Twitter and Instagram accounts, which have several million followers each.

Louis and Briana, both 23, are set to become parents early in the new year following a brief romance in May.

At the time, the pair were spotted on a series of nightclub dates in Los Angeles.

It is believed Briana is around 11 weeks pregnant and Louis has accompanied her to medical visits regarding the baby.

A friend told People while the pop star and pretty blonde weren't in a relationship, they remained close friends.

Louis - seen in LA on Tuesday - is said to be house-hunting for a place near Briana's Calabasas home so he can be a 'hands-on father' once their child is born.

'Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer,' the source has told People.

'They are both really happy and although they aren't in a relationship, their friendship is extremely strong and they are both really excited about the baby. It's early days and Briana and the baby's health are the most important things right now,' adds the friend.

A representative for Louis had 'no comment' on the report when contacted by MailOnline.

The Brit singer's mother Johannah Deakin and stepfather Dan have also reportedly met Briana's parents, with an insider claiming the two families enjoyed a July 4 weekend together.

His split with Eleanor was only made public when he was pictured kissing brunette student Lucy Julian, 20, while on holiday in Thailand in March.

At the time, his rep said: ‘Louis and Eleanor split up two weeks ago. They have not announced this as they wanted some privacy during this time.’

It was also claimed that Eleanor flew 20,000 miles to Australia in a final bid to save her relationship with the star and work through their 'differences'.

Since confirming he was single, Louis has been hitting the party scene hard and has regularly been photographed leaving nightclubs with a variety of pretty women.

In May, Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello was forced to deny rumours that she was dating Louis.

Louis split from girlfriend Eleanor Calder in March
