How the tables have turned! Cookie visits Lucious in prison in new promo for Empire season two

The season two premiere of Empire is just under two months away.

But the show is already drumming up excitement for fans, and released a new teaser on Wednesday.

The 30-second clip had no dialogue, but gave a few glimpses of what we can expect when the runaway hit series returns.

Perhaps the most exciting moment in the promo is the final one, where we see Lucious Lyon clad in an orange prison jumpsuit, as he receives a visit from ex-wife Cookie.

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) has a look of utter disdain on her face as she glances up at her former husband, while sitting in the jail's visitation area.

Those who watched the season one finale will know the rapper turned Empire records founder, played by Terrence Howard, is facing charges for murder.

It's quite a change from how the series kicked off, with Cookie getting out of prison after serving a 17-year sentence for drug dealing.

We also catch a glimpse of Cookie in a cage, apparently for some kind of performance as she has a golden microphone in hand.

Meanwhile, things appear to be going well for Jamal, who is seen performing for a huge crowd, surrounded by people holding pickets and with a big sign behind him reading '#FREELUCIOUS'.

Last month, the show's creator Lee Daniels revealed that filming on season two had begun, and shared a video of Chris Rock, who was on set at Chicago's Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.

The 50-year-old will play a man from Lucious' past who is also a prisoner at the same jail.

Just like in the first season, plans can expect to see plenty of famous faces acting as guest stars in season two.

Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz will all be making appearances, while Marisa Tomei has landed a recurring role.

Empire's second season will also be longer, made up of 18 episodes with a mid-season finale in the winter. The show returns to Fox on September 23.
