Jeanene Worrell-Breeden, 49, of Teachers College Community School, jumped in front of a B?train in the 135th Street station on St. Nicholas Avenue on April 17, police said.

Stranded orca whale freed after being kept alive with 'MacGyver' water pump

Researchers from the Cetacea Lab and volunteers from a local environmental group rushed into action after reports of a whale that had become stuck on British Columbia's North Coast. The rescue group used a water pump, hose and duct tape from one of their ships to rig a device that got enough water to wet the whale for eight hours. Wet blankets were used to cover the orca until high tide allowed her to free herself.

Bogie the Siamese cat was supposed to move with his family from Hawaii to Detroit but he escaped his kennel on a United Cargo flight over a year ago and ran away. However an animal shelter volunteer named Bill Antilla (bottom right) found him and looked after him and, after checking his microchip, was able to contact the family. 'They were ecstatic that we found Bogie,' he said. Bogie has now been properly transferred to Detroit and was reunited with his family (main), who are happy to have him home.

A first date for a pair of hikers quickly went awry. The twosome had to be rescued by helicopter after becoming lost in the massive Angeles National Forest in California. The hikers became confused on the trails and called for help. They were airlifted to safety and did not suffer any injuries.

The white-spotted cat snake, measuring almost two metres in length, spent half an hour swallowing the lizard after slithering up on it as it slept in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Indonesia. The chameleon forest dragon, also known as a javan humphead lizard, usually sleeps at the ends of branches which makes it an easy target for hungry snakes. The unlucky reptile, which was around 25cm long, was resting on a branch three metres off the ground when it was caught.

Kruger National Park baby elephant uses piece of bark to scratch itch

The clever youngster was spotted in Kruger National Park in South Africa picking up a piece of bark with its trunk and shifting the makeshift tool around until it was hitting the itchy spot. The calf had been wandering along a track with its mother and sibling when it saw the piece of wood and is said to have immediately gone for it. The photos were taken by South African photographer Sean Parker.
