Jamie Hince appears on stage for the first time since 'split with wife Kate Moss' as he kicks off US tour with The Kills

Jamie Hince was perhaps enjoying a little escapism when he smiled on stage at California's El Rey Theatre on Monday night.

The rocker joined his band The Kills for the first time since reports of a split with his wife-of-four-years Kate Moss emerged late last week.

Guitarist Jamie, 46, had travelled to Los Angeles from London, where he lives with 42-year-old model Kate, as he kept up his work commitments in the face of a rumoured divide.

The star was dressed in a signature all-black mod image, tucking skinny jeans into ankle boots, and layering knotted scarves and necklaces at his open collar.

Confusing reports of the split, which include Jamie being keen for a 'quickie divorce,' Jamie seemed to be wearing his wedding ring again, this time on stage.

He put his dramas to one side and seemed consumed by his music and even let out a rare smile as he strummed away on the strings.

The Kills - which also features American singer Alison Mosshart - haven't released new music since 2011 - the same year that Jamie married supermodel Kate.

This summer is expected to mark their return to the music scene after gig-goers on Monday night hinted that the duo had introduced three new tracks to the crowd.

Their schedule includes touring the States as well as Canada until at least September, meaning that Brit musician Jamie will be largely away from home.

Arriving over seas on Monday, he cut a slightly downcast figure just days after the relationship bombshell made headlines.

Jamie failed to raise a smile as he made his way to the venue ahead of his gig, to which he carried a large leather holdall in one hand, and a smart jacket on a coat hanger in the other.

On the very same day, Kate was also spotted for the first time as she stepped out in their native London.

She arrived at the couple's home in the British capital, looking far more concerned about being seen than usual, as she cut an incognito figure in an ironically eye-catching large leopard print jacket.

The 41-year-old model was seen heading to her Hampstead pad, three days after her personal life woes came to light.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2011, are thought to have been having relationship troubles for some while, and they haven't been pictured together in several months.

The Mirror reported the guitarist is hoping for a quick divorce from his supermodel wife, insisting he doesn't want a cut of the supermodel's estimated $26million fortune.

The paper did report however that Jamie was keen to keep his collection of vintage wines and considers them to be 'investments' like his collection of antique books.

The source explained 'He’s fond of Kate’s daughter Lila Grace and hopes it can remain friendly and they stay on good terms. Making sure he doesn’t take any of Kate’s wealth is all part of that.'

The couple started dating in autumn 2007 after being introduced by a mutual friend, shortly after Kate ended her turbulent engagement to troubled rocker Pete Doherty.

Kate and Jamie enjoyed a blissful wedding at St Peter’s Church in Southrop, Gloucestershire, in 2011 with a host of other stars in attendance.

A source has told The Sun that the marriage is over, and has been in trouble for a while: 'They are properly over as a married couple. It's gone past the point of no return.'

The insider added: 'Jamie's just waiting for Kate to move forward with divorce proceedings. Neither are in any hurry but they both suspect there won't be a reconciliation.

'They accept they'll probably have to make some sort of statement but don't want to feel forced into anything.'

Sources claim one of the contributing factors to the couple's problems is Kate's jealousy over Jamie's friendships with other people.

MailOnline has contacted both stars' representatives for comment.
