Ellen Barkin, 61, has been cast as vicious crime boss mom to 39-year-old Scott Speedman's armed robber in TV version of Animal Kingdom
Scott Speedman and Ellen Barkin have been cast together in new crime drama series.
Animal Kingdom will see the 39-year-old play Barry 'Baz' Brown, an armed robber adopted by 61-year-old Barkin's Janine 'Smurf' Cody, according to Deadline.
Despite her working class mom appearance, Cody is actually the matriarch of a feared crime family.

The series will focus on the character of 17-year-old Joshua 'J' Cody, Barkin's grandson, who moves in with his grandmother when his mother dies of an overdose.
Set in a Southern Californian beach town, J becomes enraptured with their life of excess and soon discovered it is funded by the family's criminal activities.
Speedman's character was adopted by the family when he was 12 and now leads their armed robberies, but also considers leaving the criminal life behind.

Silver Linings Playbook star Jacki Weaver, who played Smurf Cody in the original, received a Best Supporting Actress nomination Academy Award nomination for the role.

London-born Speedman is most well known for his role as Ben Covington in TV drama series Felicity, as well as the werewolf-vampire hybrid Michael Corvin in Underworld opposite Kate Beckinsale.
Barkin meanwhile is best known for her 80s thriller such as Sea of Love with Al Pacino and The Big easy opposite Denis Quaid.
She next appears in Robert DeNiro's boxing film Hands Of Stone, along with Usher.
