Hundreds of migrants laid siege to the Channel Tunnel for the third night running last night, as they stormed fences (pictured) and desperately tried to clamber on trains bound for Kent. Senior MPs, backed by hauliers, said the British Army should be sent in to restore order because the French authorities had 'lost control' as the Calais illegal immigrant crisis escalated dramatically. It comes as one migrant - a Sudanese man in his 20s or early 30s - slipped as he tried to get underneath a train inside the high-security zone surrounding the undersea link in the early hours of yesterday morning when 1,500 attempted to get across. On Monday night, more than 2,000 illegal immigrants tried to break through the Tunnel entrance, prompting an urgent security review which saw more than 120 police officers drafted in to secure the terminals.
Has MH370 finally been found? Air safety investigators have 'high degree of confidence' that debris found in Indian Ocean 3,500 miles from doomed flight's last known location belongs to a Boeing 777
Officials are examining debris found washed up on a beach on Reunion island east of Madagascar (illustrated on map) to determine if it is related to doomed Malaysia Airlines flight 370. The two-metre-long piece of wreckage, pictured, which appeared, to be part of a wing, was found by people cleaning up a beach. Xavier Tytelman, an expert in aviation security, said it could not be ruled out that the wreckage belonged to MH370, which vanished without trace in March last year.

Lion killer who was a director of Bank of England: As world reviles US game hunter, picture that shames a Tory donor and ex-BBC governor
Tory donor Sir David Scholey, a former director of the Bank of England, posed by the bloodied corpse of a male lion he apparently shot for fun in Zambia (right). Confronted with the pictures, the defiant former governor of the BBC (top left) defended the kill as 'an entirely personal matter'. He admitted hunting wild animals legally all over the world, and has also been photographed next to elephant tusks and the skulls of a cape buffalo and kudu antelope (pictured bottom left). Animal rights campaigners launched a petition calling on the Prime Minister to strip him of his knighthood because of his participation in the hunts. It comes after US dentist Walter Palmer, 55, from Minnesota, went into hiding over the death of Cecil, a famous lion in Zimbabwe.

Voice of racing, friend of the royals, scourge of the bookies: Legendary BBC commentator Peter O'Sullevan dies at 97
Legendary horse racing commentator Sir Peter O'Sullevan (left) - the voice of racing for five decades - has died at his home in London aged 97. Known for his passion and flawless style, he covered a total of 14,000 races during his career and became a friend of the Queen Mother and the Queen. His Grand National commentaries included Red Rum's three historic victories (pictured winning the National in 1977, top inset) and the void race of 1993. Despite retiring as the BBC's racing commentator in 1997 after five decades covering Grand Nationals, Derbys and Gold Cups, he continued to be a familiar figure on the racing scene, owning and backing horses. He was married to his wife Lady Pat for 54 years (together right, receiving his knighthood in 1997), with the union only ending in 2010 when she succumbed to Alzheimer's disease, but O'Sullevan retained a huge circle of friends right up to the very end.

Married lesbian model and her wife are BOTH pregnant by the same sperm donor at the same time
Randa Armstrong, 31 (left), and her civil partner Stephanie, 25 (together right), are expecting their babies just three months apart after conceiving through a 'shy' 24-year-old science student they found on a website. Earlier this month, Randa - who has previously worked as an underwear model - had her 12-week scan which confirmed she was expecting. Stephanie, meanwhile, is now 29 weeks pregnant with a boy. The couple, who met through the internet in 2009, had originally wanted to have IVF but were told the faced a three-year wait on the NHS. So they turned to an online forum called Known Donor Registry where they found a single man who does not drink and smoke - and did not want a fee for his time. The couple, who live in Galashiels, invited the man - who lives 35 miles away in Edinburgh - to their house on three separate occasions. They then inseminated one another.
Butcher murdered his wife by hacking her face, neck and head with an axe because of their 'unhappy marriage' then killed himself, inquest hears
Butcher Oliver Ruse, 37 (left), attacked his Zambian-born wife Deborah Ruse (right) with an axe and left her dead in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor of their home in Long Melford, Suffolk (inset), before later killing himself. An inquest in Ipswich today heard he killed his wife because of their 'unhappy marriage' and financial problems. He jumped from a multi-storey car park in Bury St Edmunds, 14 miles away from the couple's home after murdering his wife on November 13 last year. Police found his Land Rover Discovery parked at the top of the car park with a blood-stained axe inside. They rushed to the couple's home but found Deborah dead on the kitchen floor. Assistant Coroner for Suffolk Yvonne Blake today recorded a verdict of unlawful killing for the death of Mrs Ruse and suicide for her husband.
'Come on then, me and you - Now!' Watch two brave police officers face down terrifying thug as he launches attack with 8-inch knife
Constables Alex Prentice and Debbie Wishart had been called out to a property in Corby, Nottinghamshire, when they were confronted by knifeman Lee Vickers (pictured), who was brandishing a large kitchen knife. As the two officers shouted at Vickers to put down the blade, he lunged at them with the terrifying exchange captured on a camera mounted on PC Prentice's uniform.
Museum that was supposed to celebrate the culture and history of East End women is branded a 'sick joke' after it opens as gallery devoted to Jack the Ripper
The team behind the project had promised to create a 'world class' museum in Cable Street, East London, dedicated to suffragettes (bottom right) and equal pay campaigners. But to the shock of residents, the building was instead given a makeover as a museum charting 'the murders and mysterious works of one of London's most notorious characters, Jack the Ripper' (left). Some have been left outraged after it emerged that the museum would focus on the gruesome, unsolved murders of prostitutes in Whitechapel in the 1880s and 1890s rather than on the inspirational role of women in the area. Architects on behalf of Mark Palmer-Edgecumbe (top right), the man behind the scheme, had initially set out a vision to create a museum 'that celebrates the historic, current and future contribution of the women of the East End'.
Pub landlord who built his own 12ft high model of Stonehenge using 35 tonnes of timber is ordered to tear it down by council
Charlie Newman, 49, who runs the Square and Compass in Worth Matravers, Dorset, used 35 tonnes of disused timber to build the model of the 'stone' circle in a field he owns in the village. The installation is made from 12 'plinths' that each weigh some two-and-a-half tonnes and are topped with 8ft long sections of trunk. But Purbeck District Council has ordered Mr Newman, pictured inset, to remove the installation, despite it being hailed as 'fantastic' and 'lovely' by residents.

Let me in! Inquisitive baby hippo squeezes his way between the giant adults wallowing in the mud
The baby hippo is seen standing on its hind legs before it clambers on to the back of a bull and propels itself into the herd of adults wallowing in the mud (pictured main). Gavin Udal, who photographed the determined hippo at Lake St Lucia in Zululand, South Africa, said the calf (pictured inset) was seeking shelter from the chilly weather - and protection from nearby predators.

The Dead Sea is shrinking! Roads, caravans and power lines are swallowed up by giant sinkholes that are appearing as waters vanish from Israeli shores
Hundreds of sinkholes, some the size of a basketball court and some two storeys deep, are wreaking havoc by devouring land where the Israeli shoreline once stood. Waters are vanishing at a rate of more than one metre a year and the problem is set to get worse without action on an international scale. The main reason the sea is shrinking is because its natural water sources, which flow south through the Jordan river valley from Syria and Lebanon, have been diverted for farming and drinking water along the way. Mining operations account for the remaining 30 per cent of the deterioration, according to Israel's parliamentary research group.
