Of course while her choice of costume may divide opinion, the body confident star is not shy when it comes to flashing the flesh - having frequently appeared nude on her show.

The outfits didn't get any less questionable from there either; Lena was later spotted sticking with the blue theme in an oversized anchor T-shirt and a pair of skin-tight snakeskin three-quarter-length yoga pants.

After that it was on to a very 70s-looking collared shirt, leaf-patterned short shorts and orange shoes.

Ready to go: After a few more twists and turns, Lena set out on her run

Lena is a proponent of regular exercise, but by her own admission: 'It ain't about the a**, it's about the brain.'

In an April Instagram post, the actress said fitness helped her with anxiety and her well publicised mental health issue.

She wrote: 'Promised myself I would not let exercise be the first thing to go by the wayside when I got busy with Girls Season 5 and here is why: it has helped with my anxiety in ways I never dreamed possible.'

Pound the pavement in hot pink Asics like Lena

When you're an award winning actress like Lena Dunham, staying shape is vital, so we're not surprised to see the Hollywood star wearing another pink pair of trainers. This time the ASICS Gel-Cumulus 17 is making a statement against her coordinating grey and navy work out gear.

Ideal for exercise or simply for running errands whilst looking effortlessly cool, these Asics are a super shocking pink and green colorway and will not be sitting on your shoe shelf unused for long periods of time. They're that much needed pop of color if your workout wardrobe is mainly black. They're great for running at night too since they;re so bright and reflective.

And the great news is that they're still available to buy from Zappos online for $120.

If you're after a different type of pink trainers, then look no further than our style edit below which include our top picks from the likes of Adidas to New Balance. Working out will never be the same again.

Lena went on: 'To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression: I know it's mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen. I'm glad I did. It ain't about the a**, it's about the brain.'

But of course every girl has her hang-ups and an appearance on stage alongside Taylor Swift and models Lily Aldridge and Gigi Hadid earlier this month left her feeling 'chubby'.

Admitting she felt self-conscious at the New Jersey Swift gig, Lena told Billboard: 'I was so thrilled to support my friend and so displeased to learn about the truth of my own height.

'I've been feeling pretty tall, feeling pretty sturdy, and it was amazing to me, like, "Oh, I'm not tall, I'm chubby." It’s different.

'I mean, on most days, I feel really great and fine about my body, but I don’t think standing next to, like, three supermodels or so is anything even the most confident woman needs to do.

'When I socialise with those women, which I've done a little bit, because they're good friends of Taylor's, who is a good friend of mine, I don't feel so strange.

'But the minute I caught sight of myself in the Jumobtron, I knew something was very wrong.'

Lena is currently filming season five of Girls and this week has been filming scenes with co-stars Andrew Rannells - her friend Elijah in the show and Becky Ann Baker, he on-screen mother Loreen.
