What a car-tastrophe! Excruciating moment fashion label Rag and Bone destroys a vintage Porsche in gritty new campaign starring actress Gabriella Wilde

Fashion label Rag and Bone has proven that there is no price to great when it comes to creating the perfect fashion campaign by smashing a beautiful vintage Porsche to smithereens as part of its latest video ad.

The clip, which showcases Rag and Bone's Fall/Winter collection and stars the brand's latest face, British actress Gabriella Wilde, 26, also features a beautiful 1979 Porsche 911 SC, which falls prey a large concrete barrier that is dropped from a height and onto the shell of the vintage vehicle, smashing it to pieces, while a slow-motion camera captures every minute of the destruction.

Paying tribute to the urban landscape of New York City, where Rag and Bone was born the brand describes the campaign as 'revolving around bringing aspects of New York into a studio setting'.

'Wilde’s signature natural beauty is toughened up as she ventures into a destructive scene of a graffiti-strewn concrete barrier hurtling into a 1979 Porsche 911 SC,' it continues.

'In another setting, the familiar New York sight of smoke emanating from a manhole cover is given an ominous, cinematic feel as the black billowing clouds engulf the surrounding space.'

Designer Marcus Wainwright added: 'The campaign concept speaks of the contradictions New York is rife with and exactly what makes it such a cool city.

'The unexpected is something we also relate to as a brand and try to inject into all we do, from our collections to imagery.'

'Rag and Bone has an understated coolness. It is chic with an edge which I love,' mother-of-one Gabriella explained.

'I loved the campaign concept. It was very different, a bit raw and I love the hardness of the images.'

Both the video and print campaigns feature the wrecked Porsche; in several of the photos Gabriella, who is married to musician Alan Pownall, is perched on top of the large concrete slab that lies on top of the once-beautiful car, as she models a series of the brand's newest designs.

And when it comes to the video campaign, viewers actually get the opportunity to see the car being demolished in slow motion; as Gabriella strides away from the Porsche, the concrete barrier falls behind her and the car can be seen slowly crumpling under its weight.

Brutal beauty: Despite the gritty nature of the clip, there is a certain beauty in the way that the car's annihilation is shown in such minute detail through the medium of slow-motion cinematography

Wearing a shiny black jacket and lingerie-style dress, Gabriella can be seen grimacing at the furious noise as the car is destroyed just a few feet away from her.

Thankfully, motoring fans can take comfort in the fact that the entire car was not sacrificed for the sake of fashion.

According to a spokesperson for Rag and Bone, only the shell from the vintage vehicle, which was salvaged from a scrap yard, was used in the campaign.

This is not the first time that Rag and Bone has created a short film to accompany its campaign; in February, ballet dancer-turned-actor Mikhail Baryshnikov appeared alongside popular street dancer Lil Buck in a video campaign for the brand.

In the video, the 67-year-old dancer, who was born in Russia and now lives in New York City, showcased a more contemporary style than fans might be used to seeing, as he and 26-year-old Lil Buck spin, flip, twist and turn around one another.

And despite the 40 year age gap, Mr Baryshnikov, who has performed with both the New York City Ballet and the American Ballet Company as principal dancer, easily held his own against his younger co-star, exhibiting a cool confidence and flare while modeling pieces from the brand's Fall/Winter 2015 menswear collection.
