He's made a name for himself as a 'metrosexual' and thoroughly modern male, not afraid to share his emotions or let his wife dress him.

But David Beckham is also quite the manly man, and he certainly showed off his more masculine side on Monday as he prepared to take a spin in Los Angeles on one of his vintage motorcycles.

The 40-year-old showed off his handsome and muscular physique in a loose-fitting grey vest as he sat on his two-wheeled vehicle by the side of a road.

Balancing himself on the kerb with his foot, he looked out to the side of the road in preparation to move off.

However, he hung about for a while before heading off on his beloved Triumph Bonneville T100 motorcycle, giving onlookers a chance to see his striking, bulging biceps and large array of tattoos.

The retired footballer finished his casual off-duty and 'going for a ride' look with a pair of snug stone colored chinos, and black and white lace-up trainers.

And, making sure he's road safe, the speed demon fan - who is often seen riding through Los Angeles on his striking bike - also donned a helmet with an orange visor.

Perhaps the most striking part of his al fresco appearance was David's impressive collection of body art, which he has recently updated with a couple of new tattoos.

On Sunday, he revealed his latest, a sweet tribute to his youngest child - four-year-old daughter Harper - on his neck.

Sitting in the tattooist's chair, brave David had a big smile on his face as he teased his fans about what he was having done with a sneaky post on Instagram.

With his neck concealed as the artist set to work, David captioned the image with the words: 'Check out my new tattoo. Watch it being made on #myeye #DBxmyeye @myeyeapp.'

Just over half an hour later, the sportsman shared the results and revealed the words 'Pretty lady' sitting atop the word, 'Harper' at the base of his neck.

The doting dad wrote alongside the image: 'Hey Pretty Lady.... Just adding to the collection of tattoos that mean so much to me... Thanks Mark as always looks amazing ...shamrocksocialclub.'

'99 was a good year for me': David posted a sweet tribute to wife Victoria with the new tattoo on his little finger - 1999 was also the year he helped Manchester United win the treble

However, as he went for his ride on Monday, the new neck tatt was obscured by the large helmet.

This ink came just days after another new tattoo, a version of the number '99' on his finger to commemorate his 16th wedding anniversary with wife Victoria, with whom he tied the knot in 1999.

Along with that image on the social networking photo sharing site, he wrote: '99 was a good year for me.'

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, David shared a snap of himself with eldest son Brooklyn, 16 (he and Victoria also have sons Romeo, 12 and Cruz, 10) after having enjoyed a late-night treat.

But, ever the health conscious fellow, he added: 'Late night crepe... Gonna need to work this one off in the morning.... @brooklynbeckham.'
