A very modern makeover! Downton Abbey stars pose for group photo in casual wear as filming of season six comes to an end

We're used to seeing group photos of them dressed impeccably in period outfits - but the stars of Downton Abbey added a modern twist to their famous pose this week.

Dressed down in casual wear, the TV actors stood side-by-side for a stylish picture uploaded to Michelle Dockery's Instagram account, 'theladydockers'.

Along with Dockery, the photo sees Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern and Laura Carmichael all wearing jeans, as filming of the show's latest season comes to an end.

Dockery, who plays Lady Mary Crawley, and Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith Crawley, also posed for another Instagram snap as they sat in the waiting area at an airport.

The ITV period drama will see its sixth and final series aired this autumn and the stakes could be higher than ever.

The hit show will definitely feature at least one wedding and one funeral – but no fewer than five characters could be heading for a trip down the aisle.

Emotional scenes were filmed in the Oxfordshire village of Bampton last week and the cast are remaining tightlipped about any new developments.

Asked about plot twists, Samantha Bond, who plays the interfering Lady Rosamund Painswick, told Mail On Sunday: ‘I couldn’t possibly answer that without being shot.’

But Rob James-Collier, who plays scheming under-butler Thomas Barrow, added: ‘I can probably guarantee a wedding, the odd funeral or two or nine.’

Penelope Wilton, who plays Isobel Crawley, has even hinted that the fate of Downton itself could be at stake in the final series, in which the story begins in 1925.

She said: ‘There are certain resolutions because its the last one. We have also reached a time where to fund those great houses becomes quite difficult. I think we will see a lot of that in the next series.’

It was revealed this year that the sixth and final series would end with a Christmas special episode.
