Regrets? Christina Applegate said she turned down the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde
'The script came along my way and it was right after I had finished Married [...With Children] and it was, you know, a blonde who was, in that first script dimwitted but ends up going to Harvard,' the star told Entertainment Tonight about the proposal.
'It was just, I got scared. I got scared of kind of repeating myself,' she explained of her decision to pass.
Success: Reese Witherspoon famously played the role of Elle in the 2001 film
Christina famously played the ditzy blonde, Kelly Bundy, in the family sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1997 and didn't want to be pigeonholed.
The role of Elle Woods went on to be taken by Oscar winner, Reese Witherspoon, also starred in the film's sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.
Legally Blonde was a blockbuster hit and even became a musical.
Christina later kicked herself for her choice, quipping to ET: 'What a stupid move that was!'
But she did applaud Reese for her performance.
All good: The blonde beauty praised Reese for her work in the film
'That's okay, you know what? Reese deserved that and she did a much better job than I ever could, so that's her life, that's her path.'
And it's not as if Christina hasn't had a successful run herself.
The actress starred on hit shows such as Samantha Who? and movie such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and The Sweetest Thing.
Big role: Christina is well-known for her role as Kelly Bundy in Married... With Children
Christina will soon be seen in Vacation.
The film follows Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) as he takes his own family on a road trip to Walley World in order to spice things up with his wife and reconnect with his sons.
Christina stars as Rusty's wife Debbie Griswold in the reboot, which hits theaters July 29 in the US, following in the UK a few weeks later on August 21.
