She's a woman with a unique sense of style and she doesn't care who knows it.

So it's without surprise that Miley Cyrus stepped out in a typically bizarre, eye-catching and yet still rather fantastic ensemble in Los Angeles for a day off on Monday.

Sticking to her wild child guns, the 22-year-old pop icon covered her slender frame in a brightly coloured, skintight catsuit.

In pop colours yellow, green, blue and red, the all-in-one - which showed off her svelte Pilates-honed figure perfectly - included pictures of cartoon legend Betty Boop and motorcycles.

The snug high-necked number clung neatly to Miley's slim legs, while covering up with a classic over-sized denim jacket and tatty Converse trainers.

Showing off her fun side - as if the catsuit didn't quite do the job - the former Hannah Montana star had slung a perspex handbag over her shoulder, complete with vibrant yellow smiley faces all over the front.

However, thanks to the perspex front of the bag, a small and suspicious-looking package was clearly visible.

Although it's not clear exactly what item was in the bag, it looked markedly like cannabis, something she is outwardly known to enjoy smoking.

The star has made no secret of her interest in drugs over the years. As well as lighting up a joint on stage in Amsterdam at the MTV VMAs in 2013, she often shares pictures on her Instagram page, showing her with large roll-up cigarettes.

The former Disney star - who was filmed using a bong to smoke the psychedelic herb salvia in 2010 - has also confessed to using 'happy drugs', including cannabis and ecstasy, in the past.

She said during an interview in 2013: 'Those are happy drugs, social drugs. They make you want to be with friends.'

Earlier this year, Miley took it one step further when she shared a photo of herself puffing on a joint in the midst of a shoot for Paper magazine.

She's never been shy about her fashion choices. And when Miley Cyrus stepped out in LA in a Betty Boop print jumpsuit by Versace, she was sure to be noticed.

The We Can't Stop singer teamed her wacky one-piece with a pair of Converse sneakers and a Levi's denim jacket. She finished her look with a clear, colorful bag by Keep It Bright.

Even though the vintage bodysuit is from a few years back, the cartoon motif is still relevant today as brands like Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana have embraced their playful side for their Fall collections.

But the slightly unkempt hairstyle was all part of Miley's look as she went about her day in her home city.

It was a typically attention-seeking appearance for the star, who has been keeping her fans up to date with her crazy antics on social media in recent days.

The eccentric singer - who is currently thought to be dating Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell - wore pyjama trousers covered in a colourful dog print, paired with a t-shirt splashed with the slogan 'It's the same love'.

Another shot shared that same day appeared to confirm the star was preparing for a hair do-over as she showed off some ombré extensions with the caption, 'Hair GoalZzzz'.

Miley is enjoying some rare down time as she prepares for her next big venture - hosting the 2015 MTV VMAs, two years after her popular culture-defining moment when she twerked on stage with Robin Thicke for a performance of Blurred Lines.
