Michelle Williams has a new romance in her life.

The 34-year-old actress is dating author Jonathan Safran Foer, according to Us Weekly.

'They knew each other through mutual friends,' a source told the magazine, adding that Michelle 'looks finally at peace and genuinely happy.'

Jonathan, 38, is best known for penning the novels Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close, Everything Is Illuminated and Eating Animals.

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close was adapted into a 2011 movie starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, and went on to be nominated for two Academy Awards.

Everything Is Illuminated was also adapted into a film which starred Elijah Wood, and marked Liev Schreiber's debut as a director and a screenwriter.

Jonathan has two children with estranged wife Nicole Krauss, author of The History Of Love.

He revealed last month that they had separated a year earlier, after 10 years of marriage.

Meanwhile Michelle, who loves to read, has nine-year-old daughter Matilda from her relationship with late actor Heath Ledger.

Most recently, the My Week With Marilyn star dated artist Dustin Yellen, but they split in May 2014 after one year together.

Michelle previously dated How I Met Your Mother actor Jason Segel for a year, before breaking up in February 2013.

The actress fell in love with Heath after meeting on the set of 2004's Brokeback Mountain, and they welcomed their daughter the following year.

Michelle and Heath ended their relationship after three years together in September 2007 - three months before his death from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

Brokeback Mountain's cast and crew remembered leading man Heath in an interview with OUT Magazine which was released on Tuesday, in honour of the 10 year anniversary of the film's release.

Michelle did not take part in the interview, but screenwriter Diana Ossana recalled watching her and Heath fall in love while making the movie.

She said: 'The first day we filmed that scene where Michelle’s character is on the toboggan and falls off the sled, and Ennis is with her—they’re laughing; well on the third take, Michelle fell off the sled, and at the bottom of the hill she was crying.

'She’d twisted her knee, and we had to call someone to take her to the hospital. Heath was not about to let her go alone, and as he was getting into the vehicle with her he was smoothing her hair back.

'I remember him looking at her, and she looking up at him with these wide eyes. She was almost startled by the attention he was giving her, but you could see it every day from thereon. For him it was truly love at first sight. He was so taken with her.'
