She plays a snooty, designer-clad sorority girl in Scream Queens.

But on Tuesday Emma Roberts looked more like a jailbird as she filmed a scene for her new TV series in an orange prison jumpsuit.

The 24-year-old actress was spotted on set at Orleans Parish Prison in New Orleans.

The star's bright blonde hair was slicked back into a high pony tail, and she also wore a long-sleeved white shirt beneath her jumpsuit.

She sported a pair of blue sneakers, and stayed true to her role's stylish streak with her flawless French manicure.

Emma was a far cry from character when she first arrived to the set.

The actress appeared to be in a hurry when she breezed by production staff donning a pair of large sunglasses and what appeared to be a black romper.

She also had her arms laden with a purse and a shopping bag.

Emma plays the lead role of Chanel Oberlin, and in a video introducing her character, Emma went more in-depth on why she enjoyed playing the haughty college student.

Abigail Breslin stars in new comedy-horror series Scream Queens

'Chanel Oberlin is the Queen Bee, and she isn't exactly the nicest person. Definitely not warm and fuzzy,' Emma said.

'She's a b*tch, for lack of a better word. But it's really fun to get to play her because there's so much comedy, and I think what Ryan Murphy does best is this kind of sarcastic, dark humour, and so Chanel has a lot of that going on, which is really fun for me.'

The series features an all-star cast which includes Abigail Breslin, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas and Jamie Lee Curtis.

'Definietly not warm and fuzzy': When discussing her role, Emma added that while her character wasn't 'warm and fuzzy,' the humour more than made up for it

The Ryan Murphy comedy-drama centers around a string of murders at Wallace University.

The 15-episode anthology set up means that like American Horror Story, once the series ends any subsequent seasons will have completely new stories.

Scream Queens is set to debut in the fall on Fox.

Meanwhile, in addition to her role on American Horror Story, Emma will star in the upcoming thriller Nerve opposite Dave Franco and Juliette Lewis.

The film, which is now in post-production, is scheduled for a 2016 release in the U.S.
