For sale: David Cassidy, pictured with girlfriend Maura Rossi, has opened the doors to the $3 million Florida home he must auction off September
This week the star gave a tour of the five bedrooms and fix-and-a-half bath home to AP.
'My soon-to-be ex-wife and I need to resolve our financial problems,' he said as he showed reporters all the loving touches he has applied to the property since he moved there 14 years ago.
He paid $1.1 million for in in 2001, and he estimates he spent a further $1 million in renovations that expanded the house to roughly 7,000 square feet.
Almost everything must go: The 65-year-old is auctioning off the home with all its furnishings, but is hanging on to his beloved instruments
Luxurious: The waterfront property with a pool was listed for sale at $2.95 million but is now scheduled to be auctioned off in September
It sits on a canal with access to the ocean and boasts a dock and boatlift as well as a swimming pool.
The interior features marble and wood floors, an expansive master suite and a family room and library/office.
While the home is being auctioned with all of its furnishings, Cassidy will take all his music instruments with him when he downsizes.
'It's coming with me until I pass away,' he said of one of his favourite guitars, 'and then it'll go to my son.'
Room to roam: The 7,000-square-foot property has five bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms
In debt: The singer was ordered by a court to sell the waterfront house in ritzy Fort Lauderdale as part of bankruptcy proceedings he initiated earlier this year
Troubles: The former teen heartthrob has been plagued with alcohol issues and is in the middle of a divorce from wife Sue Shifrin
Cassidy and Shifrin listed the property two years ago with an asking price of $4.5 million but it failed to find a buyer.
It was most recently listed for sale at $2,950,000.
Fisher Auction Company, which also handled the 2013 auction of the Miami Beach mansion where fashion designer Gianni Versace lived and died, is requiring potential bidders to deposit $200,000 into escrow and prove they have at least $3 million available for the auction.
Shifrin filed for divorce in February 2014 after 23 years of marriage and one son together, Beau, also a musician.
On the market: Cassidy has been trying to sell the Florida mansion for two years but without success

Aside from declaring bankruptcy, Cassidy this spring was sentenced to a $900 fine and community service for a 2013 drunken-driving charge in upstate New York.
Last year he entered alcohol rehabilitation after being charged with driving while intoxicated in Los Angeles in 2014.
Cassidy also had his license suspended for six months after pleading no contest to driving under the influence in Florida in 2011.
After publicly announcing that he is an alcoholic in 2008, the I Think I Love You singer has struggled with his sobriety.

He also told AP he doesn't spend much time online or watching the news.
'It's way too negative for me. I deal with depression, anxiety,' he said. 'It comes from the external problems I've been dealing with. But they all will, as everything does in the end, ... wash away.'
Cassidy once joked that he got a phone call every time his former Partridge Family co-star Danny Bonaduce got into trouble over the years. Now Bonaduce has received a few phone calls about him, Cassidy said.
'He's like my brother,' Cassidy said. 'He has always reached out to me, and I always reached out to him.'
Divorcing: Shifrin, seen here with cassidy in 2002, filed for divorce in February 2014, one moth after the former Partridge Family star was arrested for his third DUI since 2010. She's listed as one of his creditors
While he's looking for a smaller house, Cassidy says he has no plans to retire. He still plays his old hits when he tours, which has become more difficult to do with arthritis.
His plans for now are simple: sell off his assets, pay back his creditors, finalize his divorce and move on with his girlfriend, interior designer Maura Rossi.
'I've already accepted that you have to do what you have to do in life,' he said, adding: 'If you were alone in my situation, I think you'd be very unhappy.'
Bankruptcy: The former 1970s teen heartthrob filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year

Heartthrob: Cassidy enjoyed a worldwide following, mostly of young girls, who mobbed him wherever he went and succumbed to mass hysteria at his concerts
