Beauty and the battered! Kate Hudson is rainbow bright as she works with 'bruised' Kurt Russell on set of Deepwater Horizon in New Orleans

Kate Hudson and her stepfather Kurt Russell's new flick Deepwater Horizon centers on the offshore drilling rig that exploded in 2010 - and created the worst oil spill in US history.

The stars were spotted strolling around the set in New Orleans, Louisiana on Thursday and camera-ready by the looks of them.

While Kate looked pretty in a colourful striped romper that showed off her toned legs, Kurt bore the 'bloodied' and 'bruised' marks of a hard day's work courtesy of the make-up department.

Kate's blonde hair was naturally styled while tinted shades partially concealed her eyes from view.

Over one shoulder she held a beige tote and her feet were comfortably adorned in flip flops.

The 36-year-old actress plays the wife of Mark Wahlberg in the fact-based film.

Say it in a striped playsuit like Kate Hudson

Technicoloured playsuit

She might be on set of a new film, but Kate Hudson looked pretty cool in this striped playsuit. As ever, the Hollywood star accessorized with slick sunnies, even when in character!

The multicolored bandeau romper showed off the actress' long toned limbs and the beautiful bright piece that'd be perfect for the summer months.

Technicolored pieces are no mean feat to pull off, but team with bronzed skin and simple accessories, you'll be onto a winner.

You can't get Kate's exact pick, but you can shop these cool, bold alternatives below. Boohoo's selection is the cheapest of the bunch and our favorite too while the romper at ShopBop mimics Kate's stripes perfectly.

All you need now is a pair of oversized sunnies and simple black flip-flops and you're ready for your jolly holiday.

Kurt, 64, plays one of the courageous workers on the rig that blew up and killed 11 and injured 16 more in the Gulf Of Mexico.

Goldie Hawn's longtime partner - affectionately called 'Pa' by stepdaughter Kate - was seen leaving what might have been the make-up department considering the state of his face.

His features were obscured by purplish red marks and cuts along with a few bandages that were the work of movie magic.

Shock value: If Kurt was appearing battered, it's because the fact-based film casts him as one of the courageous workers on an oil drilling rig that blew up in the Gulf Of Mexico in 2010

His casual clothes were a marked contrast to the 'battered' face - grey track trousers, a light grey T-shirt and flip flops.

On Friday, Kate was in great spirits as she shared a photo of her in the make-up room with child star Stella Allen, writing: 'Make up time with my on set little girl.'

One thinks that grey-haired fellow in the back wearing the cosy sweat pants was Kurt himself.

He's battered too: Mark Wahlberg bore the 'bruises' and 'cuts' of movie make-up as he filmed a tense scene in which he speaks on a cell phone
