But despite news that the 38-year-old actor will be headed back Down Under for his new project, his model partner has kept mum on whether she and their son would be joining him.

Lara, 28, has her mother Sharon and brother Joshua who still live in the harbour city.

The latest war flick is set to begin filming next month and will also star The Internship's Vince Vaughn and The Amazing Spider-Man's Andrew Garfield.

Hacksaw Ridge is based on the true story of conscientious objector Desmond Doss, who saved 75 men in Okinawa in World War II without ever firing a gun.

'It's about a man who wouldn't touch a weapon and wanted to be part of saving lives in the worst place on earth.

'I mean Okinawa was a horrific place...there were over 300,000 casualties, mostly civilian,' Mel explained.

During the official movie announcement at Sydney's Fox Studios Mel said he and his team are set to create a film that everyone will be in demand by viewers.
