This is the moment a plane passenger captured a 'UFO' overtaking his flight during take-off from New York JFK airport. The footage, from July 7, appears to show the object flying past the Virgin Atlantic plane at high speed. The peculiar object has led to speculation that it may be an extraterrestrial craft.

Since Friday only around 400 people per night have been trying to scale fences, way down from the peak of around 2,000 last Monday. But the 1,700 attempts last night shows that the crisis has not slowed despite extra French police being brought in. New footage shows how one mob tore down fences and charged past police, who retaliated by spraying tear gas. Migrants are continuing to overwhelm the police guarding the Eurotunnel terminal despite the wider use of tear gas and batons. One union official said today that the officers holding the line at Calais are 'exhausted'.

Astonishing video has emerged of a body being removed from a coffin and carried out of a shopping mall after it was taken into the centre by grieving relatives (pictured left to right). Posted on Reddit, it was claimed the coffin contained the body of a woman who died in a tragic accident on the mall's escalator.

Nasa photographers managed to capture the International Space Station as it was silhouetted in front of the moon just days after the rare Blue Moon. It took just 0.82 seconds for the space station to pass across the bright face of the lunar surface. Normally the space station is only visible as a fast moving bright speck in the sky, but backlit by the moon's surface, it is possible to make out the ISS's massive solar arrays, which are larger than football pitch, making it the largest man-made object in orbit around the Earth.

President Vladimir Putin's official spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, 47, married former Olympic icedancer Tatyana Navka, 40, last weekend. Ms Redwood, a writer and environmental activist, hates supermarkets and only eats food she's grown and made herself on her 15-acre property on the edge of the forest in East Gippsland in Victoria.

Jason Stanford refers to himself as an 'astronaut wife', because his actual wife and stepmother to their two sons, Sonia Van Meter, 36 (pictured together with sons Henry, 13, and Hatcher, 11) was one of the people chosen for the Mars One Project, a privately-funded one-way mission which hopes to establish a permanent human colony on the red planet. In an oped for Texas Monthly, Stanford writes of how he has come to accept his role in the process and the reality that he will have to say goodbye to his wife in 2026, when Mars One hopes to send the first four people to live on Mars. 'We're just an ordinary couple in an extraordinary situation, and we're taking it one small step at a time,' he wrote.

Owners of the Wookey Hole attraction were left stunned by the incredible discovery (main and top right), and the new cave - officially known as 'Cavern 20' - is now accessible to visitors for the very first time. The chamber is the largest at the West Country attraction and also features a subterranean lake which had previously only been seen by a handful of cave divers.
