Charlize Theron is a mother of two after adopting a second child, according to reports.

TMZ claims that the Hollywood superstar took custody of a daughter called August last month.

The website suggests that Charlize, 39, worked for six months with an adoption agency in the US to take in the tot, an African-American girl.

The new addition to the actress' family will be a younger sibling for Jackson, three.

MailOnline has contacted a representative for the Oscar winner for comment.

The South African beauty adopted her son from her home country in 2012.

Charlize has candidly spoken about her desire to adopt since she was a child.

She previously said: 'I've always known I wanted a family. I don't think my mom could wait any more!"

Opening up about a letter she penned as a young girl, she revealed: 'It said, "Would you please take me to an orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby?".

'I always knew I would adopt. Always.'

Back in May, the blonde beauty admitted she was 'open' to having more children, but gave no hints she was planning on adopting again.

Asked if she would like more kids, she said: 'Yeah. I mean, I'm so open to anything in my life. I was never like, 'Oh god no just one.' I was always kind of open to whatever kind of happens.'

The decision to take in another child comes just before her 40th birthday on August 7.

The momentous occasion follows heatache for the Monster star, who called off her engagement to Sean Penn two months ago.

She reportedly dumped Sean, 54, in May although the exact date of their split is not known - after the pair had been spotted looking loved up together in public numerous times.

Charlize and Sean both attended the Cannes Film Festival in mid May, and looked happy together at the premiere of her film Mad Max: Fury Road on May 14.
