He's a handful! Sara Gilbert carries baby son Rhodes in a sling while juggling bags and phone

Sara Gilbert is a busy woman, even when she has a day off work on The Talk.

The 40-year-old actress and TV host proved that on Saturday when she went for a walk with a friend and with her five-month-old baby, Rhodes.

Although little Rhodes did get a taste of his mother's hand at one point - the boy was caught sucking her thumb - he was carried in a sling while a phone, a tote bag, and a backpack occupied Sara's hands and shoulders.

Sara did not seem interested in trying for glamour during her Los Angeles outing along Sunset Boulevard.

She held back her dark and curly hair with a dusky rose headband and went makeup-free, showing off her considerable natural beauty.

For a top, Sara stuck to a plain, white T-shirt that was mostly covered by her lavender-grey baby sling and by Rhodes.

Skinny blue jeans and grey-and-yellow trainers completed Sara's look.

In order to carry everything she needed, Sara had a blue backpack slung over her shoulders and traded-off carrying a white tote bag with her friend.

That friend had opted for a similar look as the former Roseanne star, wearing a black T-shirt with patched jeans and black trainers.

A green baseball cap covered dark hair and sunglasses obscured the woman's face.

Rhodes may have been the best-dressed of the lot, with his navy-blue cap, white shirt, and rainbow-coloured trousers.

He is Sara's youngest child and her first child with wife Linda Perry, 50 - a singer, producer, and songwriter best-known as the former lead singer for 4 Non Blondes.

Sara took time off from hosting The View to give birth to Rhodes in February - the boy's biological father has never been revealed.

The co-host and producer of The Talk also has two older children - 10-year-old Levi and seven-year-old Sawyer - from a previous relationship with television producer Allison Adler.

Sara and Linda have now been together for about four years and married in March 2014.

The two recently announced that they were working on an album of children's music inspired by the birth of their son.

'I started playing some stuff to [Sara], and the kids were liking it,' she told Us Weekly at the beginning of July.

'Then I thought, wouldn't it be fun if you guys gave me topics and we'll call ourselves Dear Sounds, and it'll be an album for kids written by kids.'

In addition to her work as a singer, Linda has written and produced music for artists like Christina Aguilera, Pink, Adam Lambert, and Gwen Stefani.

Lots to do: In addition to hosting and producing The Talk, Sara has continued to act and is reportedly working on a children's album with her singer-songwriter wife
