'I felt like a product': Cody Simpson reflects on signing his first record deal ... as he poses for new promotional shoot

He’ s back in Sydney ahead of forthcoming shows across New South Wales and Queensland, but preparations took a back seat as Cody Simpson posed for a new photo-shoot on Monday.

The Australian singer features in a series of low key snaps as he continues the promotional missive for his new album, Free.

Sporting a dark blue T-shirt and jeans Cody is pictured lounging on a beanbag, his tousled blonde hair casually swept to one side.

Another image finds the 18-year-old seated next to a window, while a final shot captures him on his feet, his denim jacket draped across one shoulder.

The singer will further promote his third album with shows in Sydney and the Gold Coast.

Sponsored by Twitter and ANZ, the intimate concerts will be money-can't-buy experiences, with dedicated fans having been given the last month to attempt to win tickets through a competition conducted through Cody's own Twitter timeline.

But despite enjoying enormous success, Cody - who signed to Atlantic Records when he was just 13-years old after posting videos of his early performances on YouTube - admits he was initially underwhelmed by fame.

'(I was) feeling like a product. But when you're that young ... I didn't know any better,' he told AAP on Monday.

'With the opportunity I was presented with, anyone at that age would have taken it and just gone for the ride so I just went for the ride.

'When you're that age, you're still just trying to please people and you're super impressionable. You've got all these people telling you what to do and you just get on with it and make adults happy by saying yes.'

A year ago, Cody broke free from Atlantic Records and has just released his third album Free on his own independent record label, Coast House Records.

'Coming out of it now it's nice to be able to do the music that's been inside me for my whole life. Now I get to hit the clean slate button and go for it,' he said.

Despite remaining true to his Australian roots, Cody is still very much a part of the famous LA set, counting Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus among his closest friends.

'That's why I'm kind of buddies with some of those people ... they are friends I can talk to more about music and art, that I can relate to,' he said.

'Miley's the best ever, she's just the best girl ever. She's the coolest chick in the whole world, I love her to death. She's always helping me.'
