He's back! Dr. Dre to release his first album in 15 years... and fans will get to hear it in just a few days
While it is not the record fans were expecting, it is still set to impress.
Hip hop super-producer Dr. Dre has revealed the wait is finally over - he is releasing his first album in 15 years.
On Saturday, the 50-year-old said on his radio show Dr. Dre's The Pharmacy, that his new album, Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, is on its way.
It's time: Hip hop super-producer Dr. Dre (pictured November) has revealed the wait is finally over - he is releasing his first album in 15 years, Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, this coming Friday
And after 15 years of waiting, fans will be able to get their hands on Compton from Friday with it dropping exclusively on iTunes' Apple Music subscription streaming service.
Long wait: The star's last album was 2001 which came out in 1999
Dr. Dre said the album includes features from Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem and Snoop Dogg.
The hip hop icon said that the album was inspired by the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, which is out August 14.
The film details his rise in the music industry along with members of the sound defining group - which also included superstars Ice Cube and the late Eazy-E.
News of the album has sent fans into overdrive, however, it was not the album they were expecting.
For a decade the rapper has teased the release of Detox as a follow up to his mega 1999 hit album 2001.
However, with the good news about the Compton release, the multi-millionaire revealed Detox will never be.
Dr. Dre said on his show: 'I didn't like it. It wasn't good.
'The record, it just wasn't good. I worked my ass off on it and I don't think I did a good enough job.'
Pushed him: The hip hop icon said that the album was inspired by the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, which is out August 14
Compton: A Soundtrack by Dre, is good enough but is also likely to be his last, the star said.
'I felt myself being so inspired by the movie that I started to record an album.
'I kept it under wraps. The album is finished.
'It's going to be my grand finale. The record is bananas.'
Where it all started: Dre (top left) began his rap career in group N.W.A which was also made up of (L-R) DJ Yella, Eazy-E and MC Ren as well as hip hop icon Ice Cube (not pictured)
