She completed filming for the fifth season of HBO hit Girls last week, but while some actresses would spend this time putting their feet up, Lena Dunham has been attending charity events.

The actress turned up at the Pink Sunset Cocktail party, which was held in Bridgehampton, New York, to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Lena, 29, looked striking in a billowing fuschia and orange sleeveless dress.

She teamed the colourful frock with silk pink heels with unusual pom-pom detailing as she posed next to a surf board at the event.

Thanks to the tiny frock's short sleeves, the tattoo on her right arm was on full show, and with the short, billowing hemline, she also flashed her shapely legs.

The annual fund-raiser - in which Gwyneth Paltrow also attended - is a two-part event, culminating in the lavish soiree.

Earlier in the day, Lena took part in a paddle board race held at the Hamptons to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

She posted a picture of her at sea with the funny caption: 'It's hard to tell from this blurry shot, but this is an image of Laird Hamilton coming to save me.'

She continued: 'He is literally King Triton and as I struggled to complete BCRF's Paddle for Pink (an amazing event to support breast cancer research) he appeared as if from the ocean's depths and guided me to the finish line.'

Lena, who is dating Jack Michael Antonoff, added: 'I kept screaming "will I make it?!" like we were in a disaster movie. He said "yes, Lena, we will." Ladies, there are still a few heroes we can count on... #ThankYouLaird #paddleforpink #3miles.'

'Paddling my ass off': The Girls actress took part in The Hamptons Paddle event before Party for Pink

Days earlier, the star tweeted to raise awareness for the good cause. 'I'm paddling my ass off in #paddleforpink on Aug. 1 to raise funds for lifesaving research.'

Last year, The Hamptons Paddle and Party for Pink event raised $1.5 million for the cause and had over 625 party guests and 160 paddlers take part in the fun.

Guests included Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Molly Sims, Martha Stewart and Donna Karan.
