Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben bemoans Super Cup final defeat and says team must take a critical look at themselves

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has bemoaned his side's Super Cup final defeat against Wolfsburg and suggested his team-mates must improve their performances on the pitch.

The Holland international had given the Bundesliga champions the lead in the 49th minute but saw his side lose their third successive Super Cup final on penalties after Nicklas Bendtner had equalised late on.

Following the defeat, the former Chelsea star revealed his disappointment after seeing his side fail to wrap up the result when dominating possession.

'I’m disappointed,' Robben told the club's official website

'That’s football, it can all change in a minute - but we have to look very critically at ourselves because we should have wrapped it up earlier.

'We had our chances and at 2-0 it would have been all over.'

Pep Guardiola's side begin the defence of their Bundesliga title with a home tie against Hamburg at Allianz Arena on August 14.
