St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said that Harris fired on plainclothes officers at around 11:15 pm, while several hundred people gathered on West Florissant Street to take part in the demonstration. Police returned fire, leaving Harris in a 'critical, unstable condition'. According to his father, Harris was 'real close' with Michael Brown - the 18-year-old whose death at the hands of police officers one year ago led to nationwide demonstrations.
