With Friends like these! Matt LeBlanc aims sledgehammer blow at James Corden's face on The Late Late Show

He has garnered a whole new gaggle of showbiz chums since becoming the host of The Late Late Show.

But Matt LeBlanc and James Corden were hardly Friends as the actor took a sledgehammer to the talk show host’s face in a bizarre game called Flinch, where the subject has to resist the temptation to move.

LeBlanc smashed the hammer into a glass shield in front of the startled self-styled funnyman’s head during the game on Monday's episode.

‘Are you really going to stand that close?’ purred LeBlanc as he whacked the glass with the sledgehammer, seemingly cannoning it into Corden’s face.

Earlier in the high-velocity game Corden had shot a string of different items using an industrial slingshot at LeBlanc, William H. Macy and Don Cheadle to make them jump in fright.

But the actors all kept straight faces and their composure intact as they barely flinched despite a barrage of apples, oranges, eggs and even breast implants.

When the breast implants failed on Cheadle, Corden joked they were no stranger to LeBlanc who picked them up and hurled them into the audience.

‘What a couch, look at you three fine specimens,’ Corden told the three stars as he introduced the stars.

All three have been nominated for same award at this year’s Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actor in comedy series.

LeBlanc joked that none of the three were likely to beat Jeffrey Tambor to the award.

When the roly poly host told them he had Tambor on later in the week, Macy laughed and branded him a ‘slut.’

‘We have to get all the guest we can, this is CBS at 12.30am, what do you want us to do?’ laughed Corden.

Asked if he enjoyed awards show.

‘No. I mean, you get to see a lot of people you haven’t seen since the last time you went to an awards show,’ said LeBlanc.

‘There is a lot of camaraderie in losing, that’s nice.’

LeBlanc recalled being at the same Golden Globes table when Cheadle won his award.

‘I was like f**k,’ he laughed.

Corden then joked about the amount of alcohol available at the Golden Globes, and told LeBlanc he thought it would take a lot of drinks to get him ‘under the table.’

’Yeah it does,’ he laughed.

Asked what his drink of choice was, LeBlanc said: ‘What have you got? I’ll drink whatever.’

LeBlanc told Corden that he shot most of the scenes for Episodes in London.

‘Here we always have a big food spread, they call if Craft Service, you go and graze, in London they don’t have that. They have a version, it’s called Crap Service.’

Corden agreed with all of the actors who complained about the food with LeBlanc saying it was mostly ‘mystery meat’ and sandwiches with cucumber and butter.

Corden then asked LeBlanc if he had ever been offered a huge amount of cash to go to a birthday party or other event.

‘No. Nobody wants to hang around with me, I think women mostly get those kind of offers, it seems like. I don't know if that happens with guys as much as women. I’m not saying I would’t go.’
