The 40-year-old actress has been in a civil partnership with Annette for nine years, but in July the couple held a big white wedding, after same sex marriage was made legal in Britain last March.

Luisa chose a 1950s style dress for her big day, held at the same registry office they celebrated their civil ceremony at in 2006.

The soap star looked gorgeous in the full-skirted number paired with red satin heels to coordinate with the dress' sash.

Her bride meanwhile chose a more traditional floor-length gown with a sparkling belt.

The couple revealed that they walked down the aisle with their two adopted daughters aged 12 and 13, who acted as bridesmaids.

‘We walked down the aisle holding hands and our girls, who were our bridesmaids, walked behind us holding hands,' Luisa told OK! ‘To walk down the aisle with our girls was so beautiful. We’ve been saying for ages that we’re getting married – as in all of us.’

Luisa added that she and her wife were emotional all day, confessing ‘we cried at everything! We’ve been through so much and some difficult times, so it feels really beautiful to do it now. I was so emotional when I said the vows because I meant every word.’

Annette added that the day had added significance as they felt 'blessed' to be able to get married like any heterosexual couple and share the same rights. ‘We’ve never demanded that as a couple, but I feel really blessed that we live in a country where we can have that,' she said.

Luisa first announced the wedding news on Twitter last month alongside a photograph of a sign which read:
