Known as 'The Jungle', the site currently houses more than 3,000 migrants and boasts an abundance of amenities after enterprising residents used discarded wood, plastic sheeting and tents to build makeshift facilities. As well as the mosque, there is also a school, several shops (left) - selling everything from dried food, tinned goods, razors, bottled soft drinks and SIM cards - and a telecoms hub where mobile phones can be charged on multi-socket adaptors rigged up to a generator (right). The sprawling camp is the base from which the migrants - who are forced to wash their clothes in buckets of water (inset) - depart every night in an attempt to storm the Channel Tunnel and cross into Britain - something which around 600 successfully managed last night.

It's a parking habit that can drive even the most patient of motorists around the bend. CCTV footage captured the moment the man walked away from the bus stop on Kingsland High Street in Dalston, just seconds before it is destroyed by a white speeding Range Rover. A man sporting a baseball cap and a jersey beat a friendly hitchhiking robot named HitchBOT to oblivion in Philadelphia this weekend, just two weeks into its attempt to travel across the US.HitchBOT, who was created by a team of communication researchers from Ontario, was found damaged beyond repair early Saturday in the city of brotherly love. 'Sadly, sadly it's come to an end,' Frauke Zeller, one of HitchBOT's co-creators told the Associated Press. 'We're very disappointed,' robot creator David Harris Smith told CBS. The men call themselves HitchBOT's parents.
