While the world of luxury timepieces is full of strange inventions, this one perhaps takes it to a new level.

The company says the project is serious, and claims that maintaining digital privacy is at the heart of its design.

'Wearing a smartwatch on the inside of your wrist provides a wide range of benefits, especially when it comes to privacy,' Adam Pluemer, president of Nico Gerard, told NBC News.

'If you're at a conference table and you have your hands on the table, you don't want someone reading your text messages,' he said.

NO MORE FUMBLING FOR KEYS! APPLE WATCH CAN UNLOCK YOUR DOOR

If you frequently find yourself fumbling in your pockets or rummaging in the depths of your handbag for your house keys, this invention could be for you.

People with an August smart lock fitted to their front door can now use an Apple Watch to lock and unlock their home with 'just a swipe and a tap'.

The watch app also tells users who has recently come and gone as well as receiving a notification when someone enters of leaves their house.

The August lock is made of 'durable anodized aluminium' and can be managed using the app which works on a smartphone and Apple Watch, as well as online.

Owners of the lock, created by technology entrepreneur Jason Johnson and industrial designer Yves Behar, can already lock and unlock their door with their iPhone, but the watch will make the process more convenient, because the 'digital key' is already on their wrist.

The Apple Watch's sapphire crystal face, he adds, is designed to stop the device from getting scratched when using a keyboard.

The Skyview Pinnacle comes with a Swiss-made automatic mechanical movement that took six months to create.

It currently costs at least $200 (£128) to make an early reservation.

The black model is $9,300 (£5,960) and the blue version is slightly more expensive at $9,500 (£6,100). The 'luxury' 18 karat gold version will set you back $112,000 (£71,950).

All three watches come with a Swiss-certified guarantees that they say will withstand going in water at 100-metre depths.

The company says that, currently, only the 38-millimetre Apple Watch can be joined with Nico Gerard's 'luxury chronometer.'

Shipments are due to be made in a couple of months.
