Back in the Big Apple: Woody Allen, seen here in Cannes in May, will shoot his new movie on location in New York for the first time in years and also shoot scenes in Los Angeles for the first time since 1977's Annie Hall
The decision to shoot on the streets of the Big Apple marks a return to his native city for Allen, 79, who has in the past said it's too expensive to make movies there.
He hasn't shot a movie in Los Angeles since Annie Hall, released in 1977.
Most recently, he has preferred to make his movies on location in Europe and in other American locations such as San Francisco and Rhode island.

'Preserve' your style in a cutout dress like Blake
She's an actress, business owner, and now, model? It certainly seemed that way when Blake Lively took to Instagram to show off a piece she designed for her website, Preserve.
The new mother flaunted her enviable post-baby figure in a cutout dress from her line teamed with a pair of high heel Mary Janes and we can't get enough of her 50's flair. Add in the cute bow, triangle cut-out, and print skirt, and we're hooked!
Get Blake's flirty style by clicking right. Then head down to the carousel where we have even more ab baring frocks from Michael Kors to Clover Canyon that are sure to last for many summers to come.
Heavy hitter: Bruce Willis, 60, has also joined the cast of Allen's new movie
Allen is famous for keeping his plot lines close to his chest and is highly secretive about his projects.
His cast is also usually listed in the credits in alphabetical order.
So it's unclear which actors of those announced will have the largest parts in the upcoming film or what the story will be about.
Re-teaming: Jesse Eisenberg worked with the enigmatic director on his 2012 movie To Rome With Love. He's pictured here in a scene with co-star Ellen Page
Leading men: Eisenberg, 31, (left) joins Ant-Man's Corey Stoll, 39, (right) who also worked with Allen on Midnight In Paris in 2011
Allen fave: Parkey Posey, 46, appeared in the filmmaker's most recent movie Irrational Man with Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. She's back for the new project
Eisenberg, Stoll and Posey are no strangers to working with the idiosyncratic director.
Eisenberg appeared in 2012's To Rome With Love, Stoll had a part in 2011's Midnight In Paris and Posey is one of the cast of the just released Irrational Man.
The enigmatic writer and director recently revealed that he considers himself 'too lazy' and too much of an 'imperfectionist' to make 'great movies.'
In an interview on NPR, Allen said he just likes to do his work and then go home at the end of the day and eat dinner.
He added he's comfortable with the knowledge he's not equipped with 'the intellect or the depth or the natural gift' for 'greatness' in filmmaking.
Veterans: Rounding out the cast are American actress Jeannie Berlin, 65, (left) and British actor Ken Stott, 60 (right)
