The decision to shoot on the streets of the Big Apple marks a return to his native city for Allen, 79, who has in the past said it's too expensive to make movies there.

He hasn't shot a movie in Los Angeles since Annie Hall, released in 1977.

Most recently, he has preferred to make his movies on location in Europe and in other American locations such as San Francisco and Rhode island.

Allen is famous for keeping his plot lines close to his chest and is highly secretive about his projects.

His cast is also usually listed in the credits in alphabetical order.

So it's unclear which actors of those announced will have the largest parts in the upcoming film or what the story will be about.

Eisenberg, Stoll and Posey are no strangers to working with the idiosyncratic director.

Eisenberg appeared in 2012's To Rome With Love, Stoll had a part in 2011's Midnight In Paris and Posey is one of the cast of the just released Irrational Man.

The enigmatic writer and director recently revealed that he considers himself 'too lazy' and too much of an 'imperfectionist' to make 'great movies.'

In an interview on NPR, Allen said he just likes to do his work and then go home at the end of the day and eat dinner.

He added he's comfortable with the knowledge he's not equipped with 'the intellect or the depth or the natural gift' for 'greatness' in filmmaking.
