It has been six years since Patti Ward lost her son on the Iraq battleground.

But the pain of his death has come back to haunt her after she had his treasured belongings stolen.

'I am burning inside. I am angrier than I've ever been in my life', she said.

Joshua Ward, a 30-year-old sergeant in the US Army, was killed along with three other soldiers by a suicide car bomb in Mosul, Iraq.

He had enlisted in the Army shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks that shocked the world.

He had completed two tours but after setting out from his home town of Matagorda for his third in Iraq, he never returned.

All his mother had to remember her fallen son by were his two duffel bags of clothes.

Now that has been cruelly snatched away from her by a callous crook which has left his grieving mother devastated.

Speaking to KHOU 11 News, she said: 'Scum. That's what I think. Scum.

'It was his. He touched them; it was his. Everything that's his, it's all I have.'

In the bag were trinkets, shirts and a helmet he wore overseas during his tour of Iraq.

Ms Ward, who proudly has her son's name tattooed on her arm, told Khou 11: 'I feel like a part of me has gone. I need those back.

'I don't care if it's just a T shirt, it has his smell on it. I need it.'

The thief also stole cash and more than $1,800 worth of tires but that means nothing compared to the sentimental value of his belongings.

If anyone has any information, they are urged to contact the Matagorda County Sheriff's Office.

Ward was survived by his sons, Joshua and Zane, their mother, Misty, his fiancée, Deonna and his unborn son, Alexander.
