A job well done! Jennifer Lopez takes a tumble down the stairs... but it's all part of the scene for her cop drama Shades Of Blue

Jennifer Lopez is one lady who takes her acting job seriously.

The 46-year-old actress filmed what appeared to be a rough and tumble scene for her upcoming cop TV series Shades Of Blue on Tuesday.

Jennifer was a real trooper and didn't balk about taking a 'spill' down a flight of hard brick steps when her character confronted a gun-wielding perpetrator.

The star - who plays New York detective Harlee Santos in the steamy NBC drama set in Queens - was seen diving head first to the bottom of the steps where crew members had placed some strategic padding.

Jennifer tried the scene a few different ways and was seen falling backwards while gripping the iron handrail, her golden-highlighted curls tossing every which way.

All that dance training has come in handy because Lopez just kept rolling with the stumbling scene until the point where her character was assisted by a male counterpart.

Padding is good: The 46-year-old's 'fall' was broken by a soft layer of padding that one suspects was placed there by a handy crew member

Jennifer's hand was 'bleeding' but that was all just movie magic courtesy of the make-up department.

Even while shooting such a physical scene, Jennifer looked stylish in a tailored grey pantsuit and grey knit top that were matched with chic black leather booties.

Her face was made up in neutral beige and brown colours aided by a slick of rosy lip gloss.

On Shades Of Blue, Jennifer is a single mother who 'fell in with a tight-knit group of dirty cops.'

She is later trapped by the FBI into informing on her 'brothers' and will 'have to walk the fine line between love, loyalty, honor and betrayal.'

Jennifer explained her character's dilemma in a Shades Of Blue clip released by NBC: 'Good people do questionable things all the time.'

Oscar winner Barry Levinson is an executive producer and Jennifer's American Idol buddy Ryan Seacrest is producing the program.

The series also stars Ray Liotta, Warren Kole, Dayo Okeniyi, Drea de Matteo, Hampton Fluker, Vincent Laresca, and Sarah Jeffery.

Shades Of Blue is expected to air 13 episodes in the winter of 2016.

Meanwhile, the mother-of-two will also return as judge for American Idol's final season, and she has a 2016 Las Vegas residency show to prepare for as well.
