Charlize Theron keeps her blonde locks clipped up at Chateau Marmont... after displaying her black buzz cut in new Mad Max trailer

She shaved off her hair for her role in Mad Max: Fury Road.

But Charlize Theron looked like she was slowly getting back to her old blonde self as she arrived at Chateau Marmont on Wednesday.

The actress clipped her hair up and wore a black vest and loose skirt with white patterned jazz shoes for trip to the hotel in Hollywood.

The same day MailOnline exclusively unveiled the new trailer for Mad Max: Fury road in which she plays the fierce one-armed Furiosa.

Charlize, 39, takes on the role of bald, badass leader of the crazed rebel gang in the return of the post-apocalyptic film franchise.

The character is certainly a sharp contrast to her glorious golden tresses and clean-cut red carpet image.

Furiosa, the elite Imperator, has a more dirtied appearance with her face blackened by car oil and of course, her hair in a masculine buzz cut.

Charlize takes the lead from Max Rockatansky himself Tom Hardy in the new two-minute teaser, as she drives the War Rig through the Wasteland with her gang of rebels.

Furiosa isn't hampered by having one arm - presumably the outcome of some of her furious combat - and wastes no time getting into action mode for some of the most high-octane scenes.

Naturally the stealthy army of rebels - which includes Nicholas Hoult and Riley Keough - attracts an allegiance from Mad Max.

Max is wandering alone and stumbles upon the group as they flee across the Wasteland to escape a city run by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken.

The enraged Warlord marshals all his gangs to pursue the rebels in a Road War as Furiosa fights back against the world that once rejected her.

Mad Max: Fury Road, directed by George Miller, is the fourth in the film franchise and sees fresh acting talents Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Zoë Kravitz hop on board.

Hollywood royalty Charlize is rendered almost unrecognisable for the part, which she shaved her head for in 2013.

Reflecting on the character, the stunner said that she knew instantly that she had to shave her head.

'They almost forget she’s a woman, so there is no threat,' she said. 'I understood a woman that’s been hiding in a world where she’s been discarded.”

'I didn’t want Furiosa to be this girl who saves all the young, pretty girls from their horrible state. I wanted it to be way more personal than that.”

'What runs loudly for me is the importance that women have in this world of survival. I was very happy to be a girl with boobies and to be part of that.'

And speaking about the experience of shedding her golden tresses, Charlize said in 2013: 'It's the most freeing thing, I highly recommend it. I think every woman should do it.'
