It is not every day you get to interview an international superstar like Tom Cruise.

So no doubt K-pop star turned television interviewer Tiffany Hwang was especially aghast after mixing up the order of the Mission Impossible movies during a sit-down chat for South Korean television.

Everything seemed to be going relatively well during their Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation discussion, and the Top Gun star masterfully navigated such soft ball questions as whether he has any special memories of his fans from the Asian country like the old campaigner he is.

But during a bit where they were asking the pint-sized star about fan favourite scenes from each movie, they peeled back a sign that was meant to show Mission Impossible 3, but instead showed the following film in the franchise.

Gobsmacked Days Of Thunder legend Tom, 53, said: 'That's four, they put four next to it.'

The obliging actor helped her switch the signs around, then told her, 'Start again. Take two.'

A generally bewildered looking Tom played along through most of the interview, and was even coaxed into introducing his movie while in character as Ethan Hunt.

The witty star said: 'This is Mission Impossible. It's a mission, and it's impossible.'

His answer certainly tickled the funny bone of the audience, as there were guffaws aplenty after he delivered his one-liner.

The prominent Scientologist was equally tickled when he learned his nickname among fans in South Korea is 'Mr Friendly Tom.'

As he giggled with glee the actor, who briefly studied to be a Catholic priest as a teenager, told Tiffany, 'That's really nice.'

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was released in the US and UK late last month, and so far has drawn in $120.5million at the box office, and holds a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
