'With great power comes great irresponsibility': Ryan Reynolds takes shots at Victoria Beckham, Rosie O'Donnell and his own Green Lantern in first trailer for Deadpool

Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, he ain't.

The very first trailer for Deadpool contains extreme violence, sexual innuendo, foul language, twisted humour... and that's just the clean version.

As the first 'R-rated' superhero, the Merc with a Mouth had to be given a 'red band' trailer and a slightly softer 'green band' trailer - although watching either it soon becomes clear this film will not be your usual comic book fare.

It opens with Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, as he and his girlfriend receive some bad news from a doctor.

'I love you Wade Wilson... we can fight this,' she embraces him, teary-eyed.

'You're right,' he replies. 'The cancer is only in my liver, lungs, prostrate and brain; all things I can live without.'

Deadpool tells the story of a Canadian mercenary who is imbued with the same mutant healing power as Wolverine, which keeps his terminal cancer at bay, but also makes him a little insane.

'What if I told you we can make you better,' a Weapon X agent tells him. 'You're a fighter. We can give you abilities most men only dream of. Make you a superhero.'

'You just promise you'll do right by me so I can do right by someone else,' he replies before taking a thinly-veiled dig at his last poorly-received superhero stint as the Green Lantern: 'And please don't make the super suit green. Or animated.'

We then see Wilson wheeled into the Weapon-X facility where Game Of Thrones' Ed Skrien - who plays Ajax - and MMA fighter Gina Carano - who plays Angel Dust - are waiting for him.

'One thing that never survives this place is a sense of humour,' Skrien tells him in his pronounced English accent.

'We'll see about that Posh Spice,' he replies, as Ajax walks off leaving him bound to a table.

'Oh come on! You're going to leave me all alone here with less angry Rosie O'Donnell?' he shouts after him as Carano winds up to pound him in the face.

Fans may recognise the following sequence from test footage that was leaked in 2014, which showed a CGI Deadpool hilariously dispatching a gang of henchman on a highway.

The set piece appears to have been kept for the finished film, as the now costumed Deadpool sits on top of a bridge with a portable radio, singing along to Salt-N-Pepa's Shoop while he draws a picture with crayons of the massacre he's about to commit.

He sees the cavalcade approaching and drops off the bridge and through the sunroof of one of the cars, violently beating the occupants until the car flips over.

When the following henchmen surround the car with guns drawn he throws up his hands in mock submission and delivers a gag which - like Skrein - came straight from an episode of Game Of Thrones.

'Wait! You may be wondering why the red suit? Well that's so bad guys can't see me bleed,' he shouts, before pointing at one of the goons. 'This guy's got the right idea - he wore the brown pants.'

After taking out three of them with a single bullet, Wilson inhales the gunsmoke and informs the camera directly that 'I'm touching myself tonight'. His comic book persona frequently breaks the fourth wall and addresses the reader directly, something the other characters pass off as a result of his mental problems.

He then gets into a tangle with the metal skinned X-Man Colossus, who sends him flying into a parked car.

The new trailer also gives a first look at Blind Al, Wilson's prisoner/friend/housekeeper/room-mate/mother-figure old lady he keeps locked in his apartment.

'It reeks like old lady pants in here,' he tells her, and depending on which version of the trailer you're watching, she has comebacks of varying degrees of profanity.

Also making an appearance is TJ Miller as his friend and arms dealer Weasel, who we witness getting his first look at Wilson's heavily scarred face.

The two then exchange similes as they try to accurately describe Wade's appearance, including 'like a testicle with teeth', 'like Freddy Kruger face-f**ked a topographical map of Utah', and 'like an avocado had sex with an older avocado'.

Younger viewers who watched the less offensive green band trailer are then tempted into watching the more NSFW version by Deadpool himself.

'Greetings munchkins, did you like that dose of green band goodness? Hankering for a little more action? Some big boy curse words maybe?' he teases.

'Check out DeadpoolWebsite.com for my red band trailer. Make sure to ask you mommy, and tell her to call me. She's got the number.'

The trailer debuted on US TV on Tuesday night's Conan, as the host was interviewing Ryan Reynolds.

As the actor began to describe the plot, O'Brien interrupted him and insisted he knew all about the character as he had once saved his life, before cutting to a clip of the mercenary giving him a massage with panda tears.

Deadpool is scheduled for release on February 12, 2016.
