Chris Hemsworth is the highest paid Australian actor in the world.

While his Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr walked away with the top spot on the Forbes World's Highest Paid Actors List with AU$109 million (US$80 million), the Thor star didn't do too badly himself in the list released on Wednesday.

Ranking at Number 15, the 31-year-old earned AU$36.75 million (US$27 million) from June 1 2014 to June 1 2015.

The figures are based on gross income and then managers and agents fees are removed to calculate the final figure.

Chris's earnings tied him with James Bond star Daniel Craig, who also came in at the Number 15 slot. 

According to the magazine, the Vacation star was very close to getting on a second list as well.

'Despite earning millions, Hemsworth failed to make the US$28 million cut off for the 2015 Celebrity 100 ranking of Highest-Earning entertainers,' the publication noted.

Hugh Jackman, 46, who is currently home in Sydney, popped up at 21 on the list, with AU$31.3 million (US$23 million) in the bank thanks to sci-fi film Chappie and his upcoming blockbuster Pan.

The Wolverine star's superhero earnings weren't counted this year, as X-Men: Days of Future Past was released Stateside in May 2014, making it part of the previous year's list.

Meanwhile Russell Crowe's directorial debut The Water Diviner as well as his beloved South Sydney Football Club have helped him to pocket AU$24.5 million (US$18 million) in the past year.

However, the magazine credits another of the 51-year-old's films for his solid earnings that got him to Number 24 on the list. 

'Critics may not have loved Noah but it was the biggest opening ever as a leading man for Russell Crowe,' Forbes explained. 

'The biblical blockbuster eventually grossed $362 million and helped Crowe earn a healthy paycheck,' they added.

The full list contained 42 actors from Hollywood with stars from Hong Kong and India's Bollywood also being added to the list for the first time, for a true comparison of actors around the world. 

Fellow Avenger Captain America, Chris Evans, just made it onto the list for the first time at Number 32, with AU$18.4 million (US$13.5 million).

And Jurassic World star Chris Pratt was another newcomer to the list, rounding out the list in the Number 33 spot with AU$17.7 million (US$13 million).
