Nicolle Wallace rejects ABC's offer to return to The View as a stand-in... after being axed from the panel

Nicolle Wallace has politely rejected ABC's offer of a demotion.

The 43-year-old was dumped from The View just one season after joining the line-up.

Producers offered her a lesser role as a guest contributor who occasionally fills in for the main panel, but she decided to walk away from the show entirely.

'Team, Our friend Nicolle Wallace is going to leave the show at the conclusion of the season,' Executive Producer Bill Wolff said in a memo to staff, according to Deadline.

'Having worked with her for most of the last year, you know the warmth, smarts, and professionalism she has brought to the job every day. She will always be a friend of our show, and I know you join me in wishing her only the best.'

Wallace, a former communications chief for president George W Bush and senior advisor to the McCain-Palin campaign, will instead cover Donald Trump's White House bid as a contributor for MSNBC.

On a recent episode of The View, Wallace described Trump as 'a clown' and 'an embarrassment to the world'.

The daytime talk show has been suffering a downward spiral ratings recently, which its revolving door of 'permanent' presenters has not been able to stem.

In the past three seasons alone there have been 11 host changes; in comparison the first nine seasons of the show kept the same four hosts every year, changing the fifth host only twice in almost a decade.

Since then Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Wallace have come and gone, while Raven-Symoné comedienne Michelle Collins have signed on.

In a further shuffle up, next seasons line-up looks to have Goldberg, Symoné and Collins all confirmed, with Sherri Shepherd reportedly returning, along with newbie Candace Cameron Bure.

The Full House alum recently came under fire when she expressed her conservative Christian beliefs while guest hosting the show, backing an Oregon bakery's decision not to make a lesbian couple's wedding cake.

After tangling with Symoné on air, she later revealed she even got death threats from viewers.

If Bure does take a permanent host spot, the network will still need to fall back on its stable of regular co-hosts, as she is expected to frequently take time off while she films the Netflix spin-off Fuller House.

As well as Wallace, it was also reported ABC offered a similar role to original host Joy Behar, but she also turned them down.

The originals: (L-R) Star Jones, Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira, Debbie Matenopoulos and Barbara Walters started the show off back in 1997. All but Matenopoulos lasted the first nine seasons
