'My wife's the real mercenary': Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds says Blake Lively was a superhero during childbirth
He may play special ops fighter-turned-mercenary Wade Wilson in Deadpool, but actor Ryan Reynolds says his wife Blake Lively is the real superhero.
The actor, 38, opened up about fatherhood and the birth of their seven-month-old daughter James when he stopped by Conan to debut the new Deadpool trailer on Tuesday.
'My wife is the real, I mean she is a mercenary,' he told host Conan O'Brien.

Giving credit: Actor Ryan Reynolds told host Conan O'Brien that his wife Blake Lively was the real mercenary thanks to her attitude during childbirth
'At one point in the middle of the delivery, the doctor's cell phone went off and she said, 'Oh, no. Go ahead, take a personal call. Feel free.'
'She was cracking jokes in the delivery room. She may have been on drugs, but I don't ask personal questions."
While Reynolds tried to help during the birth, he admits he was basically useless.

'I was just a terrible coach,' he confessed.
'There was a lot of clapping. I went for a couple of high fives, but she did not.'
And while the Van Wilder star says he's loving fatherhood, baby James is more interested in Lively - even making 'mama' her first words.
'I'm very proud. Right now she's starting to say 'mama', the handsome star shared.
'There's an unfair advantage there. It turns out that breasts are actually a life support system and the child seems to gravitate towards the breasts.

Trailer: The character's twisted humor has earned him a cult following
'I'm just the breastless a**hole wandering around the room and getting in her sightline every once in a while.'
'All about mom. I am dead to her. That's her first words, ironically. 'You're dead to me,' he joked.
Last month, Lively shared a photo of herself breastfeeding their daughter beside a peaceful waterhole.
Posting the picture to Instagram, the former Gossip Girl actress added the cheeky caption 'The PERKS of breastfeeding'.
