How China is turning a disused quarry into a stunningly futuristic mountain resort with an indoor ski slope and a 200ft waterfall

  • Five-star Dawang Mountain Resort complex to open near the city of Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province
  • The 150,000-square-metre resort will also house a water park, indoor ski slope and an outdoor swimming pool
  • As well as the curvaceous structures, the resort will also boast a 200ft waterfall, which empties into a quarry below

The latest renderings for the Dawang Mountain Resort, in China, display the exterior of the beautiful complex, which can be seen glimmering among the picturesque mountain scenery.

As well as the curvaceous structures, the images also show off the resort's gushing 200ft waterfall - which drops into the large quarry pit below.

With Beijing winning rights to host the 2022 Winter Olympics just last week, it is believed that the complex could attract a new generation of winter sports fans to the country.

Based near the city of Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, the luxury five-star resort will combine sports, leisure, restaurants and shopping.

One of the structures - a 100m tower - will offer 270 high-class rooms, while the 'Deep Pit Ice and Water World' will offer numerous activities.

The 150,000-square-metre resort will also house a water park, indoor ski slope and an outdoor swimming pool, which will cantilever to create the top of the huge waterfall.

Designed by Austrian architectural firm Coophimmelb(l)au, the construction of the resort, which is being built into a disused quarry and lake, began in 2014.

Only work on the hotel has begun so far and an overall competition date has yet to be set.
