Spice Girls 'set to reunite for huge world tour to celebrate the girl group's 20th anniversary WITHOUT Victoria Beckham'

The Spice Girls are reportedly set to reunite to mark their 20th anniversary with a world tour - without Victoria Beckham.

The girl group released their debut single in 1996 and will celebrate two decades in the spotlight by hitting the road together next year.

However, Victoria - known as Posh Spice in her pop star hey-day - will sit the trek out, deciding to focus on her ever-expanding global fashion brand instead.

A source tells The Sun: 'There is a huge demand for the Spice Girls to get back together, especially with the nostalgia around the two-decade anniversary of their first release next summer.

'Mel B flew into London last month to secretly agree the plan with the other three girls. They should each make more than ten million pounds from this.'

Victoria - who took part in the group's 2007-2008 reunion tour and their appearance at the London Olympics closing ceremony three years ago - still has the option to take part but insists she is too busy.

A source tells MailOnline: 'Victoria loved her time as a Spice Girl and wishes the girls nothing but success & happiness however she is now too busy running her brand and fulfilling the needs of her family.'

Despite circulating rumours, Emma Bunton spoke out on her Heart FM radio show on Friday, insisting nothing was set in stone with the alleged reunion.

The singer, who used the moniker Baby Spice during her time in the group, promised eager fans that she would inform them of updates regarding the Spice reboot.

She said: 'If anything happens and it's concrete, and we decide on something, I will let you know, but nothing's happening at the moment.'

Just last week Melanie Brown, who has carved out a successful career as a TV talent show judge since her days as Scary Spice, insisted the band would 'do something to celebrate' the milestone.

Speaking on America's Today show she explained: 'I got so many great memories.

'I toured the world with four of my best friends. Even today we all kind of support each other.'

And Victoria ensured her fans knew that she supported her four pals' decision to hit the road again by taking to Twitter to share a throwback snap of a photo album of the band.

She wrote: 'Love my Spice Girls.'

Now that's scary: Mel B also posted a throwback to her days in the band on Instagram, writing: 'The world deserves to hear your voice!'

The band was last on stage in 2012 when they performed a medley of Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life at the Olympics in 2012, one of the highlights of the event's spectacular closing ceremony.

They had previously teamed up together for a world tour in 2007-08, marking the first time Geri had performed with her bandmates since walking out of the group to embark on a solo career in 1998.

However, their reunion tour in 2008 ended prematurely after they cancelled the gigs in South America, South Africa and Asia.

After returning to the stage twice since they split in 2000, Victoria - now one of the world's most sought-after high-end designers - insisted that she had hung up her mic for good.

Speaking in 2014 she explained: 'That was a perfect time to say, "That's great. Thank you to everybody, but no more."

'Sometimes you've got to know when it's time to leave the party.'

However, the other members have always been keen to mark their 20th anniversary in style.

Just last month, Mel C - who has enjoyed solo success and acclaimed stints in musical theatre - said: 'There were rumours of an anniversary reunion in 2014 but they were not true. The thing is we formed in 1994 but Wannabe was in 1996 so we didn’t see it as an anniversary year.

'I would like to think we will get our act together and do something spectacular to acknowledge our 20 years of Wannabe,' she explained to the Daily Star.

'However, myself, Geri, Mel and Emma have talked about the possibility of maybe performing live together again as a four-piece, because Victoria doesn’t want to do it anymore and we completely respect that. She’s moved on, it’s not her passion any more. She is doing insanely well with her fashion and the other four of us still love performing.'

At the peak of their success, the Spice Girls were the biggest pop act on the planet, selling 85 million albums over just a few years, making them the biggest girl group in history.

Wannabe went to number in 31 countries and sold six million copies, while follow-up singles Say You'll Be There and 2 Become 1 hit the top spot in 53 countries.

During their four years in the charts, they enjoyed nine No.1 singles and two No.1 albums in the UK, including one No.1 single and album in the U.S.
