Country singer Jake Owen has announced that he and his wife Lacey Buchanan are getting divorced.

The 33-year-old took to Twitter with an official statement on the matter while saying 'This is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.'

The couple - who share a two-year-old daughter Olive Pearl - were married in May 2012 after a one-month engagement.

The Real Life singer said in the statement: I wanted to let my fans know how much I've appreciated their support of not only my career, but my family as a whole.

'Sadly, Lacey and I have decided to end our marriage.

'We want to focus on our daughter Pearl and make sure that she has a beautiful life with loving parents. We appreciate you respecting our privacy during this time.'

The split won't come as a huge surprise to some fans as Jake was very honest about his marital problems in a recent interview.

He told America's Morning Show 'my wife and I, for the last few months, have really been having a hard time and struggling with communication, and literally talking about divorce and all kinds of stuff,'

'And I don't want to talk about that, but after long conversations for days and weeks, part of us talking about it and getting it out there and letting people know that we're the same as they are, we have problems, too, it made us feel better talking about the things we've kept from each other.'

The duo met on the set of Jake's music video for Eight Second Ride when the brunette beauty was his co-star in the clip. 

This latest announcement makes three high-profile country couple splits in recent months. 

Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock announced they were ending their 26 year marriage this week and last month Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert revealed they were going their separate ways.
