Nicolle Wallace confirms she'll leave The View after just one season after producers offered to keep her on in demotion to 'contributor'
- The former White House communications chief under George W. Bush made her last appearance on set in a live show Thursday
- The season has been a rocky one for The View, which has now lost all three of the panelists brought on at the start to revive flagging ratings
- The Republican commentator has reportedly signed on to cover Donald Trump's White House bid as a contributor to MSNBC
Nicolle Wallace is leaving The View after the conclusion of her first and only season of the female-led daytime talker.
The 43-year-old Republican commentator was brought on this season in a bid to reignite flagging ratings alongside Rosie Perez and Rosie O'Donnell, neither of who will be returning next season.
Instead of taking an offer to sit in as a 'contributor' on the show next season when her conservative heir apparent Candace Cameron Bure can't make it in, the former White House communications director has reportedly signed on for a role at MSNBC.

Turned down demotion: Instead of taking an offer to sit in as a 'contributor' on the show next season, the former White House communications director has reportedly signed on for a role at MSNBC
Deadline reports that Wallace turned down the demotion in order to follow Donald Trump's run for the White House as a commentator on the news network.
'I love you guys, and you know, I never thought I would get this job in a million years. I was more surprised to get it than I would have been to not get it,' she told her fellow panelists Thursday.
'But I have loved being a part of this table, I have loved sitting in this chair, and it was never mine, but I'm lucky I got to occupy it for a little bit.'
She pointed out Raven-Symone first as part of her goodbye.
'I love you to death, and I think what you say about politics is so spot-on because it's true, and it's not just your truth, it's true for a lot of people in your generation,' Wallace gushed. 'So keep talking about politics, don't let anybody tell you that people don't want to hear it.'
She then turned her attention to head host Whoopi Goldberg and and fellow one-season panelist Rosie Perez.
'I think what you say about politics is so spot-on because it's true,' Wallace told Raven-Symone. 'It's true for a lot of people in your generation. So keep talking about politics, don't let anybody tell you that people don't want to hear it'
'My girls RP and Whoop,' you are two of the loves of my life,' Wallace said, though Perez was not on set. 'I have fallen in love at first sight with three people: my husband, my son and Whoopi Goldberg'
'My girls RP and Whoop...you are two of the loves of my life,' she said, though Perez wasn't on set Thursday.
'I have fallen in love at first sight with three people: my husband, my son and Whoopi Goldberg.'
Wallace's pedigree is far more Washington insider than it is daytime chatter. In addition to running W's communication's team, she was also a senior adviser to the Palin-McCain campaign in 2008.
While she was brought onto The View as a sort of Elisabeth Hasselbeck style conservative firebrand, her Beltway politesse proved less than favorable to a show that's long subsisted on infighting and other controversy.
Wallace joked about her discomfort with some of the less politically correct aspects of the job Thursday.
'When I tested last season I said, I don't know if I want to work there, I could never talk about my vagina on live television. Look how far I've come,' she said to audience laughter.
When Wallace moves bad to her natural political environs after this season, The View will see a different line-up in which Raven-Symone and Whoopi will be joined, sometimes intermittently, by comedian Michelle Collins, Candace Cameron Burr and and Sherri Shepherd.
