'I think I can afford sunglasses!' Vanderpump Rules star Jax Taylor defends himself in wake of felony theft charge

He is used to being on camera as a reality star, but Jax Taylor no doubt wishes he had not been a star of this surveillance video.

In Beverly Hills on Friday, the 36-year-old Vanderpump Rules star did his best to explain why he walked out of a Hawaiian store last month with a pair of glasses.

The former model was stopped and asked why he took the sunglasses, which were so expensive that they landed him a felony charge.

At first telling photographers not to believe everything they read, he then passed the incident off as an 'honest mistake'.

The SUR employee said: 'There was alcohol involved.

'I think I can afford a pair of glasses! Clearly my credit card was in my hand.'

Jax was out on Friday with his girlfriend Brittany Cartwright who was also in Hawaii when the star was arrested.

The 36-year-old was enjoying working holiday at the time, filming scenes for the Bravo reality series with the Vanderpump Rules cast for his birthday.

Judging by his claims and the video, it seems he may have celebrated a little hard before he decided to go shopping.

Despite the embarrassing arrest, Jax seemed in good spirits as he and his girlfriend walked back to their car.

For his day out in Beverly Hills, Jax wore a pair of black jeans with a blue checked shirt, which he made sure to button low so to show off his muscular chest.

The reality star wore his hair slicked back and threw on some grey and white Nike sneakers.

His girlfriend meanwhile dressed in a grey dress with an empire bustline that then flowed out from high on her waist.

Last week his co-stars weighed in on Jax's arrest with restaurant matriarch Lisa Vanderpump telling Perez Hilton she was less than impressed.

The Real Housewives star said he was being disciplined over the incident: 'Absolutely. We're dealing with it. I am happy to say I see some type of remorse [from Jax]. People make mistakes and he definitely made a big one.'

Scheana Shay told the website one thing was for sure, he was guilty of being an idiot.

'I laughed, because it was so stupid. Everyone was like, ''You're such an idiot!'' If it was anything else he got in trouble for, we would've all been pretty sympathetic, but because it was straight stupidity, we're like, ''C'mon man! What were you thinking?'"

Strangely lest sympathetic was his on again off again best friend Tom Sandoval.

'I was really pissed, disappointed and embarrassed.

'Obviously, we're grouped together - we're the Vanderpump Rules cast. When we go places, people will group us together and now think ''those guys steal things.'' You can't do stupid things like that. People are watching.'

It is understood the fallout from Jax's arrest will be shown as part of the next season of Vanderpump Rules, which Bravo has not announced the premier date for yet.
