Jeremy Clarkson soaks up the sun with close companion Phillipa Sage as the duo enjoy a low-key ball game in St Tropez

He has jetted to the South of France to celebrate signing a new £160million TV deal with Amazon.

And Jeremy Clarkson looked happy and relaxed as he and close companion Phillipa Sage enjoyed a low-key day out in the St Tropez sunshine over the weekend.

The 55-year-old former Top Gear presenter was playing a round of popular French ball game Pétanque as he relaxed in the French Riviera resort's famous Place des Lices with his female friend.

Jeremy was clearly in holiday-mode as he sported a pared-back lilac checked shirt with chino shorts and blue suede loafers.

Phillipa donned a similar look, sporting a white shirt, frayed denim shorts and pair of blue Converse trainers.

The blonde completed her low-key holiday look with purple Ray Ban sunglasses and a delicate silver chain.

The pair looked serious as they threw themselves into the match, which involves throwing hollow metal balls as close to a wooden ball as possible.

The duo were later seen taking a casual stroll, once they had wrapped up their game.

Jeremy touched down in St Tropez last week and is clearly enjoying a relaxing break before he returns to his world of filming and fast cars.

The TV presenter's holiday comes after he parted ways with hit BBC motoring show Top Gear following a fracas with a producer Oisin Tymon.

After widespread controversy and an investigation by the BBC it was decided that Jeremy's contract would not be renewed.

His co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May then quit in a show of solidarity with Jeremy.

The trio have since signed a lucrative contract with Amazon to present a new motoring show, which will hit screens next year.

Filming for the new show is due to begin in the coming autumn.

Clarkson managed to get around a ban on doing another car show with a UK broadcaster because Amazon is owned by a US-brand.

The new programme will be overseen by the trio’s long-standing executive producer, Andy Wilman, who was widely acknowledged as the brains behind Top Gear.

Fans will have to sign up to Amazon’s £79-a-year Prime service before they can watch the trio – and many will have to pay even more to rig their televisions up to the internet.
