Who are you calling granny? Elizabeth McGovern, 54, shows off her sexy legs and youthful looks at Downton Abbey tribute

She's famous for playing a grandmother in hit period drama Downton Abbey.

But after filming her last scenes as Cora, Countess of Grantham last week, Elizabeth McGoven showed she isn't quite ready to be typecast in the granny role.

Attending a special BAFTA tribute to Downton on Tuesday night, the actress looked years younger than her age of 54.

After years covering up in full-length period clothing, Elizabeth was finally able to show off her fabulous legs in a white satin mini dress by Suzannah.

The American star teamed the flirty outfit with a pair of red killer heels, with her brunette bob styled in soft waves.

Elizabeth, her co-stars and crew gathered at Richmond Theatre in London to accept a special award by BAFTA, which was being filmed for an ITV special later this year.

She was joined by her on-screen family, Hugh Bonneville (Robert, Earl of Grantham), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) and Dame Maggie Smith (Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham).

In the upcoming sixth and final series of Downton - which is set in 1925 - Cora is 57 - just three years older than Elizabeth.

Now Downton is finished, it doesn't look like Elizabeth's busy acting schedule will be slowing down anytime soon.

The actress was famously nominated for an Oscar for 1981 film Ragtime - the same year she completed her education at New York's famous performing arts school Julliard.

Throughout the 1980s, she was regularly cast as the love interest alongside Hollywood stars such as Kevin Bacon, Robert De Niro, Dudley Moore and Mickey Rourke.

Having steadily acted throughout the '90s and '00s and starting up a band, Sadie And The Hotheads, Elizabeth has been enjoying a career resurgence of sorts since Downton launched in 2010.

Elizabeth recently starred in comedy drama Unexpected alongside Cobie Smulders, with her next film Showing Roots due out later this year.

The final series of Downton Abbey is set to hit British screens in September, with the final episode being broadcast at Christmas.

It was revealed over the weekend that the final series will see the Crawley family having to downsize as their extravagant lifestyle doesn't become financially viable in the changing world.
