It's the diddy Downtons! Young child actors steal the show as they join co-stars at TV drama's special BAFTA tribute

A host of Downton Abbey stars past and present put on their finery on Tuesday night to toast the end of the ITV drama.

However, it was the show's littlest castmembers who ended up stealing the show as they joined their on-screen parents on the red carpet in London.

Child stars Fifi Hart, Zac and Oliver Barker posed for photographers as they attended a special BAFTA tribute to the show, following the end of filming on Monday.

Michelle Dockery was joined by identical siblings Zac and Oliver - who are actually triplets along with their sister - who take turns to play Lady Mary's son Master George Crawley.

Although Michelle's character Lady Mary hasn't been a hands-on mother to George, the actress has struck up a close bond with the adorable four-year-olds.

Zac and Oliver were cast for their piercing blue eyes and blond hair - making them a believable mini me of George's father Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), who was killed in a car accident the day his son was born.

In an interview last year, Michelle said she loved working alongside the young actors: 'It was harder when we filmed with younger children, because they had no idea what was going on. Now, they are at an age when they get it that they are pretending.'

In fact Michelle has grown so fond of Zac and Oliver, she chose to share a candid behind-the-scenes photo of the three of them together on her Instagram on Monday as she posted an emotional message about her final day on set.

Irish actor Allen Leech, who plays widower Tom Branson, arrived carrying his on-screen daughter on the red carpet at the Richmond Theatre.

Looking dapper in a black suit, Allen carried five-year-old Fifi, who plays Sybbie - the eldest Crawley grandchild.

Last year, young Fifi told the Mail On Sunday how much she loved playing with her adult co-stars in between scenes.

She said: 'My favourite time is when Lady Rose (Lily James) tickles me and I get to sing nursery rhymes with Lady Mary.

'The other thing I loved was putting the decorations on the Christmas tree.'

Completing the child stars were the young twins who play Lady Edith's illegitimate daughter Marigold, who held hands with their on-screen mother Laura Carmichael.

The event saw the cast and crew accept a Special Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for the show's phenomenal success both in the UK and internationally.

Jonathan Ross was hosting the event, which is being filmed for BAFTA Celebrates Downton Abbey, which will be broadcast on ITV later this year.

Gareth Neame, executive producer of the show and Managing Director of Carnival Films, said of the BAFTA honour: '‎As Downton Abbey moves towards its conclusion with the final season this autumn, I speak for the entire cast and crew when I say how honoured we are that the Academy will recognise the show with this Special Award.

'Not only is Downton a much-loved show in Britain, it has had huge success in both the US and right around the world, waving the flag for Britain and our creative content and that's why the BAFTA recognition means so much to us all.'
