Literary love! Amanda Seyfried and Aaron Paul are complicated lovers in the first trailer for Fathers And Daughters

Amanda Seyfried and Aaron Paul are quick to find romance - but struggle a little more with love - in the first trailer for their upcoming movie, Fathers And Daughters.

In one of two main stories featured in the movie, the 29-year-old actress and 35-year-old actor play Katie and Cameron.

Although they meet and bond over a book written by Katie's Pulitzer prize-winning father, Jake Davis (Russell Crowe), the young woman's troubled past makes it difficult for her to love anyone.

Cameron is shown in the trailer meeting Katie for the first time, introducing himself with the questionable choice of praising her father.

'Normally I would never approach someone like you, but your father wrote my favourite book, Fathers And Daughters,' he explains.

Katie, however, has serious issues surrounding her father - who had a mental breakdown when she was a child and had to hand her over to an aunt and uncle to be raised.

While present-day Katie struggles to understand how love works, flashback scenes of her father see his mental and emotional decline.

'I don't love,' Katie states bluntly to her therapist at one point.

She later tries to explain the situation to a confused Cameron, practically screaming that she does not know how to 'be the girlfriend.'

Bad prognosis: Although the trailer is not explicit, Katie's later emotional struggles hint that Jake did not recover from his own illness

Still, the two young lovers might work things out in the end, as Katie can be seen to confess to Cameron: 'You're the best thing that ever happened to me.'

An original manuscript of her father's book is shared to seal the deal.

Coming together: The future might be brighter for Katie and Cameron (played by Aaron), since she declares he is the best thing ever to happen to her

This is not the first time that Amanda and Aaron have played a couple - over several seasons of HBO's Big Love between 2006 and 2011, the actors played young lovers Sarah Henrickson and Scott Quittman.

Diane Kruger, Quvenzhane Wallis, Bruce Greenwood, Janet McTeer, Kylie Rogers, Jane Fonda, and Octavia Spencer co-star in the movie, which does not yet have a release date.
