She has compared herself to her 'idol' Elizabeth Taylor in the past.

And now Kim Kardashian is channelling the legendary actress again - this time taking inspiration from Elizabeth's iconic portrayal of Cleopatra.

The reality TV queen has been transformed into the queen of Egypt for a new cover photo shoot for Violet Grey's magazine The Violet Files.

Kim's face is adorned with shimmering gold make-up, black eyeliner and pieces of jewellery for the series of beauty shots.

Make-up artist Pat McGrath revealed her inspiration behind the modern take on Elizabeth's Cleopatra.

'Elizabeth Taylor's makeup in Cleopatra has been reacted countless times, but for Kim I wanted to create a version that has never been done before, a futuristic 3D version,' she explained.

'I wanted to portray a luxurious decadence by using elements of ornate facial jewelry constructed into shapes that pay homage to Egyptian culture, and of course to the rich exotic character that Taylor played in this role.'

Kim gave a sneak peek of one of the close-up shots from the artistic photo shoot on her Twitter page on Tuesday evening.

The 34-year-old has long idolised Elizabeth, and in fact was the last person to interview the late movie star before her death in March 2011.

Kim even bought some of the actress's jewellery at auction, and looked into purchasing her house, but ultimately decided it wasn't the right home for her and husband Kanye West.

'It was just so enchanting,' she told Vogue of the Bel Air property. 'With a garden with really pretty trellises and beautiful roses, but it wasn't realistic for me to purchase. It only had a one-car garage.'

Kim interviewed Elizabeth about her jewellery collection, and recalled: 'Everything seemed so selfless for her.

'We talked about the jewellery and how it ultimately didn't belong to her; she just wanted to help people.'

Elizabeth even lent Kim the robe she wore in Cleopatra for a photo shoot.

The Violet Files beauty shots aren't the only thing Kim has been posing for. On Tuesday the pregnant reality star shared a fully nude selfie to shut down her haters.

Along with the photo - which Kim insisted had 'no filter and no Photoshop', she wrote: 'First they say I'm too skinny so I have to be faking it...Now they say I'm too big so I have to be faking it...SMH!

'Some days I'm photographed before I eat & look smaller, some days I've just eaten & I look bigger. It's all a part of the process. I think you all know me well enough to know I would document the process if I got a surrogate.

'Everyone's body is different, every pregnancy is very different! I've learned to love my body at every stage! I'm going to get even bigger & that's beautiful too!'

Kim revealed she is enjoying better health after a difficult first pregnancy with daughter North, now two.

'I'm blessed to even be pregnant & even luckier to not have preeclampsia as far as I know, so I don't have the swelling issue this time! They also say your body carries a boy different than a girl!

She concluded: 'Whatever the case may be I'm grateful to God for this miracle & no matter what rumors or comments you throw my way this time they truly don't affect me!'
