SARAH RAINEY joins the Middle Eastern boy racers flying around London in supercars

Hands gripping the steering wheel, I am perched in the front seat of a garish white Mercedes so enormous it makes me feel like one of the Borrowers, writes SARAH RAINEY. My every move is being watched by an equally enormous man dressed head to toe in purple velour, who identifies himself only as 'The Wolf of Knightsbridge'. I am forbidden from touching the plush red-and-white leather interior; forbidden from pressing the astounding array of buttons and levers that dot the dashboard; and, above all else, forbidden from putting my foot anywhere near the accelerator. Parked outside the five-star Dorchester hotel in London (centre) are, from left, a Ferrari, a Mercedes, a Rolls-Royce, a garishly customised gold Range Rover and, yes, yet another Ferrari. I am also pictured (left) with a £400,000 Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6, and (right) with a white Lamborghini.

Are firefighters to blame? Experts say water sprayed on volatile chemical fire may have been the cause of the apocalyptic explosion in China which killed 50 people

Tianjin explosion may have been cause by chemical fire and firefighters' water

Firefighters could have caused the apocalyptic explosion Tianjin, China that killed at least 50 people, by spraying water on a warehouse storing volatile chemicals, experts have suggested. Around 700 people were injured, 71 seriously, after two blasts rocked the city in northeast China, which saw shipping containers destroyed, thousands of cars torched and port buildings reduced to burnt-out shells. Chemical safety experts said calcium carbide reacts with water to create acetylene, a highly explosive gas. An explosion could be caused if fire fighters sprayed the calcium carbide with water, they said. Meanwhile a spokesman for China's fire department admitted the first firefighters on the scene did use water. The questions come after a firefighter was pulled alive from the rubble after being trapped for 32 hours. Zho Ti, 19, was pulled out by rescuers at 7.05am local time on Friday morning.
