PM Narendra Modi’s pet initiative to get June 21 recognised by the UN as International Day of Yoga has found an unexpected supporter in Congress veteran Ahmed Patel.

On Friday, Patel, who is political secretary to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, tweeted: “Yoga symbolises our ancient culture, heritage & scientific temper. I welcome the initiative of the government and the UN to recognise this.” 

Neta's plea to EC 

A BJP corporator on Sunday petitioned the Election Commission to issue orders to political parties against use of the tricolour in their party flags.

The corporator also sought directions to the Congress for withdrawing its ‘hand’ symbol. 

In a complaint to the EC, corporator Simmi Jain said that in order to ensure free and fair elections, the political parties should not be allowed to use symmetrical flags as party flags. 

She also demanded withdrawal of hand symbol of the Congress and allotment of a fresh symbol. 

Ahmad slams BJP 

On a day when the Prime Minister spoke about curbing drug menace, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad targeted the Akali-BJP government in Punjab for showing laxity in dealing with the social problem. 

“Modi talks about drug menace, but it is said that the Akali and BJP government in Punjab and its ministers are openly patronising this menace,” Ahmad tweeted shortly after Modi’s Mann ki Baat programme. 

DCP tweets 

In a first, a DCP of the Delhi Police tweeted live updates about every development in the investigation of the high-profile Uber rape case. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma, under whose jurisdiction the incident had taken place, posted messages using his official Twitter handle @DCP_North_Delhi during the investigation of the case. 

“Questioning of Uber’s Asia head Eric Alexander revealed that Uber needs major improvements to reach the safety standards what they promise,” one of Verma’s tweet reads. 

No leave for cops 

Keeping in mind a possible terror attack in coming days, the Delhi Police has cancelled leaves of all the police personnel with immediate effect. 

Recently, an order was issued from the police headquarters mentioning the upcoming events especially the Republic Day for the leave cancellations. 

US President Barack Obama is scheduled to attend the R-Day parade.
